I'm not anti-Borla because we have it on our Viper and the sound is GREAT; however, I've yet to be impressed with them vis-a-vis Tubi, Fabspeed, AWE, etc. on the higher reving engines.

the most important thing is area under the curve. 26hp is misleading to say the least. i would bet you dontt even get the 26 at the highest delta with an independent testing it.

Mr. B personally I am sorry but the exhaust note is not impressive.
Upon spending the money I would want a real difference compared to stock. From the clips I've heard the Borla sounds extremely tame.
I even heard a clip of a 997GT3 with this exhaust and it was a disappointment.

I do not mean to be negative but IMO it doesn't have the goods.
Again I am sorry but the rwhp gains make me skeptical.

I prefer the system I have on my 997GT3 and I have dyno proven gains.
Gains claimed by a manufacturer mean nothing to me. They have to be demonstarted by the customer and the next customer and on. Then it is real. To many times the buyer never test the results. Never dyno especially pre and post mods.

I had a B&B exhaust on a BMW I no longer own and it was LOUD.
I've been using Borla ever since. I know everyone isn't going to like the sound of a particular exhaust, but with the Borla I like the fact that I can carry on a conversation in the car at any speed. My wife likes that too. She refused to ride with me in the BMW that had the B&B.

Youtube of course does tend to give a poor reproduction of the underlying audio on any exhaust clips so it's more than likely that Mr B's car sounds much better than the clips might suggest.

That said, there are a few other 997/Borla clips on Youtube. Mr B, is this one perhaps closer to the sound you hear with your installation?

I think it sounds pretty good!

Yeah, it does sound a lot like that under hard acceleration.

the audio portion of these video's on youtube or any other media format only give a glimps of what the exhaust sounds like in person. You have to consider the small microphone used in these consumer camcorders. Also you have to consider the compression used on youtube and other media sources and the playback speakers you are useing on your computer.

I do agree with GT3 Ranger that compared to other youtube clips the Borla sound tame...and to my ears has no Porsche flat 6 rasp in the sound and sounds a little puffy. Again due to what I mentioned above it really is so hard to tell listening via youtube on a computer.

I think this is largely due to the use of the standard cats - they really do a lot of the quietening down of the exhaust. The resiult being a tame sound if the mufflers do quite a lot of silencing too.

You can get loud with the standard cats Try Tubis or, even better, bypass pipes! The Tubi seems to do very little silencing of the exhaust whatsoever! (As I found when I replaced my standard cats with AWEs and retained the Tubi mufflers. They were WAY too loud, I was surprised that setup didn't break every window for 100 yards)! Bypasses are just a touch louder as they do no silencing at all of course. So other than bypass pipes or Tubis, you'll get a relatively tame sound with the dual 600-cell standard cats.

Free-flow cats, however, really open up the sound (and performance, don't forget). Try 200-cell cats with the standard cans, they're as loud as Tubis with the standard cats - but faster! Once you've upgraded the cats (and headers - they make a huge qualitative difference to the sound) the trick then is to use a muffler of your choice to give you the sound level and quality you want.

If I were replacing 2 elements of the exhaust it would be the headers and cats and I'd retain the standard mufflers. Best is to go with a well-designed system that replaces all 3.

Just to clarify, there must be some confusion here because we have not finished our exhaust for the 997GT3. What you heard must have been one of our many prototypes. The latest prototype (which is still not finished) was just installed 2 weeks ago. We are trying a few different ideas with our own valve configurations and dialing in the sound.

Also, sound clips are misleading. You wind up comparing microphones, speakers and recording techniques, not exhaust notes. Change the microphone or even just move it a few inches and the sound clip changes dramatically. Play it back on a laptop and it sounds entirely different than it does at home on your desktop. Not to mention all the stuff that goes on with your inner ear and vibrations from the ground or the seats of the vehicle (which can't be recreated in a sound clip). Compress the file for an MP3 and it changes even more. I don't mean to be preachy but I could go on forever about this LOL... If you want to discuss it more please send me a PM.

Regarding HP gains, after three decades of catering to the high performance aftermarket we have seen that there are normally doubts until a reputable 3rd party executes a reliable test. In fact, this happened recently with our exhaust for the Cayman S. There were many raised eyebrows until Farnbacher Loles tested our exhaust independently and posted the results on caymanclub.net . However, once that happened we were embraced by Cayman S owners and have exceeded their expectations for sound and performance.

Anyhow, it's not in the best interest of our brand to post bogus figures. It took us a long time to build the credibility we have in the marketplace and we wouldn't risk our reputation for a few quick sales.....or even a whole bunch of quick sales, or anything for that matter. It's not worth it.

Don't forget that the numbers include our headers too.......

Thanks for all of your feedback guys. I can't even express how critical it is for us to understand what you are looking for in an exhaust. We know that we can make it for you if we understand your needs.
