Question What's Your Engine Oil Temp Running

I’ve noticed my engine oil temp is running close to 225 in city driving with the AC off. I’ve also noticed that when driving super mellow the temp is about 200, but if I give the car one or two quick rips in second gear to redline the temp almost immediately jumps to just under 225. The ambient temp here tonight was about 71 with +/- 60% humidity (S. FL). I remember the car running this hot during the summer but not this time of the year. What are you guys running and under what conditions.

Thanks

I have never seen my engine oil temp exceed much over 200, even under hard driving, but I live in Minnesota...

In the UK, our oil temp gauges are calibrated in centigrade, not farenheit but mine runs 100C normally and 110C when driving really hard. If I remember my math correctly, that would be 212F to 230F

This is not normal for regular driving regardless of the location, and AC on or off should be the same since the oil cooler and ac condenser are not contiguous. Your car is new enough that the dealer should be able to track it down (at least you would have it on record for possible warranty later). Go to PCA.org Technical Q&A Section.

My car runs at the EXACT same temps.

I was too wondering if it was running to hot.

When i run it at the track it runs at 225-ish, but does not seem to go higher... that i have noticed.

I change my oil every 2,000 miles also.

I run MOTUL 5W-40 also and I live in Southern California.

that is your water temp, all stay at 175 unless you are leaking coolant or in the sahara.

engine oil gauge is on the far left on a 997

Thanks all. I'm amazed just how fast the temp jumps from a steady 200 up to +/-225 with just one or two short rips to redline.

Runs about 220 no matter what the outside temp, winter and summer, once it's fully warmed up.
