3 weeks left on warranty. What to double-check?
Hey guys. I just bought my first 997 this weekend, and I am so excited!!! I am traveling on buisness right now, so I will post my 'I just got my first 997' post when I get home
However, the car has 3 weeks of warranty left, so it is going to the dealer on Friday for the annual service. I want them to find any problems before the warranty expires. Do you think they will go over the entire car? Are they incentivized to do this before the warranty expires?
Anything I should specifically ask them to check?
Thanks!
Nick

I just went thru this in December. Just check the usual items (oil leaks, a/c, ect) and you're ready to roll. My 05 Carrera has been bulletproof !! Regular oil changes, brake fluid flush, air filters and you're good..Enjoy
Good point. Is it relatively easy (ie quick and cheap) for the dealer to assess whether the RMS needs to be replaced? Given that it's 6-7 hrs to replace, I hope that it can be checked in alot less than that!

It can be checked when up on a hoist, they run there finger over it and if it is showing any moisture then it should be changed.
The dealer will look at any problems you report but they don't look for things on their own. If you can pay for an inspection it might be worth it, but you should have had it done before you bought the car.
+1 on that. Always a good idea.
It's worth taking your car to an indy and have him look it over. It'll be a couple of hours labor at most. Mine found a RMS leak on my wife's Boxster... then replaced by the dealer when I pointed it out...

Repeating what has been posted on this subject on earlier threads, Dealers' compensation from Porsche is only 55-60% (of what they would normally charge us) for warranty work. Thus they may not be too aggressive in locating problems, particularly if you have not been a regular customer; "let it wait until out of warranty so we'll get full price." All the more reason to have a competent independent garage spend an hour checking it out.
You can also buy an extended warranty if you are worried about it. They can be bought from Porsche and can be negotiated a lot. They are all just insurance policies based on loss/risk. I bought one for my 05 997 just to protect against major problems like engine etc.. Usually I do not buy insurance policies on my cars but I elected to this time just because it is easy to get into the $2000. range on minor repairs and that is what I paid for the policy.

Yes, I should have paid for a PPI. However, I was buying from a large reputable dealer (BMW) and the price was right. I bought the car sight unseen, except for a bunch of pictures. Other than a wrinkle in the center console, I was really happy with the car's condition. It had a month left on the warranty, so I figured it was an acceptable risk to take.
So, I just cancelled my $360+ 'annual service' oil change at the local dealer and replaced it with a used car inspection at a local independent garange. Their price ($110) seemed on the low side, but they said they check everything...including the RMS.
We'll see!
