paranoid of dealership?
paranoid of dealership?
ok, since i bought my car from a private seller last summer i have not had it to a dealership. Now i have a simple task i need done (new battery and also need spoiler activated), and i realize i am worried that dealership will note my AWE exhaust (including cats) and GIAC chip and dension ipod thing and make any future warranty work problematic...
Am i thinking too hard on this, i guess i always figured if something catastrophic occured i would revert to stock before dealership visit...but if they note it now, hmmmm?
I am located in chicagoland so if that matters am looking for feedback there too (any dealerships friendlier than others?) give me some advice!

The only thing I would be concerned about would be the flash. The other performance parts you have may be noted in your account with the dealer, but for them to deny any warranty claim they have to prove that that modification caused any particular part to fail. I took my car to the dealer recently in which the SA noted that I had aftermarket cats, but he told me it's just standard that they note non stock items so if that part fails, it's obviously not covered. But I wouldn't be surprised that if I ever have an issue with anything related to the engine that they might try to deny warranty due to the cats. That's just how most dealers seem to work unfortunately.
On the other hand you could take your car to an independent shop and not worry a lick.
Have you thought about changing the battery yourself?
Ultimately, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Life is too short

Yes, i am an unrepentant do-it-yrselfer. Just figured if they would replace it for free i would save the $80 or so from autozone.
Also, i think the only people with the software to activate my spoiler are dealerships. (I replaced fixed wing with standard decklid(from ebay) last week)

Yeah, if you can get it replaced under warranty that would be a plus. I would imagine you would have no problem taking it to the dealer. But they might want to find out why the battery is in need of changing and they could always try to blame in on the Dension. I guess it all depends on the dealer.
Good luck!

oh well thanks for the replies guys. I ended up just doing it myself because i couldn't go the weekend without going for a drive, the weather here in chicago is officially now 'nice'....
will have to hit the dealer later this week tho, for the spoiler activation...

Maybe you can request a referral in your region to a dealership who would accomodate you with no stress.

Get to know your dealership. They may have good people there. I recently had a bunch of things done to mine (in warranty) and became much more confident in the service guys' skill levels and commitment to service.
