I am getting very weak --you?

That 20 percent deal that Jersey 1977 got really hit a home run with me .
So today I thought of my choices . The cheapest was to do NOTHING . Not bad huh ? The most expensive was to buy a gt3 ? In either scenario there is some level of missing something . I don't love the M3 . I love the Turbo so much that I refuse to drive it daily. The Gt3 makes no sense but I would love that too much and want it to be a garage queen .

I asked my tuner about modding the M3 . His simple question of what type of mods had me adding up all the parts and figuring it was not the thing to do . By the time I mod the M3 I cou;ld practically trade it in on an 09 997S for the 20 percent off.

So I went to the dealership. Oh boy .. here we go again . They only had one manual car . Tons of PDK cars . I drove a PDK car . Nice .. but not for me.

I called two other dealerships . One had a great car and they made a nice offer saving me a two hour drive . The only problem was that it was a black car and my Turbo is black and i kinda want something different . BTW the black car has limited slip diff , carrera classic wheels . manual . all kinds of good $h*t . But I already have a black car.

Plus I really like the guys locally .

So I wait . Confused and realizing that the Jersey 1977's car deal took its toll on my Porsche buying emotions.

I have a feeling I am not alone .

Oh, and to answer your question....

I personally have been watching 996.2 prices.... oh boy I would love a 996.2 to go with my 997! Prices in the 30's and a few in the high 20's.......

There is a certain joy of seeing a car's purity preserved too. Drive any car every day and the novelty erodes . Having a garage queen preserves this honeymoon phase of the car's ownership where the driver gets older and the car remains forever young . It's age defiance can keep a certain memory alive within ones heart .. not just of the car itself .. but of that time period in a person's where that car had such significance . That is why people have collector cars . One look at that old car that still looks new is enough to remember the days ....

Yeah yeah yeah, I was just giving you a hard time!

But you did it backwards. Your Porsche driving that is....

True story, on one of my first trips to the local Porsche dealer I got to talking to one of the sales reps about the black 993TT they had sitting on the floor. They were asking the same price for the 993TT as they were their slightly used 997TT that was sitting just next to it. As we were talking he said, the 993TT is a car you shouldn't drive everyday while that 997TT over their is something you can reliably drive everyday and not feel bad about it.

Your 997TT is sick and with the mods you have on it, its truly a unique supercar!! I do not blame you for feeling the way you do.

One of the downsides to all internet car forums is you can live vicariously only so much and then..... I did my deal in May and can't and won't look back. I read that the great deals come with a price to the dealer; they must take another car from the port.

Step away from the computer until this goes way otherwise......

My region is low on manual transmission C2S cars . They have a few but for a buyer who wants the performance features and specific wheels and options it's harder than shopping the PDK cars .

20 percent off prices a 100K car at 80 and that jump from 60 to 80 places many buyers in what i call 'the zone ".
I define "the zone" as when 60 is already a stretch and 80 is over the edge .

I would have to trade in my M3 but with this type of discount it's tempting enough to consider . They just are limited with the car I want and I am not desperate enough to travel too far or dig too deep to buy it .

If the car was there and the price is right then I think a lot of people on 6speed would buy them and this time around the 09 recent discounts push that envelope a wee bit more.

The deals abound right now. If you cant get 15% or more off MSRP you aint breathing.
Also I have had one TT and TWO GT3s and I bought a PDK. If your turbo is a 6 speed I dont see why you cant get a PDK. Most of my track buddies have switched. With sport and sport plus it satisfies my GT3 cravings
Just to give you an idea, if the car is at 100K you should be in the 80s, if its in the high 100's or 110 you should be around
90k its just the best deal I have ever receive on a car period.

I agree . As for the PDK it is very nice . Hands down its extremely practical but I already have an M3 that I am not in love with . I know I won't love the PDK . I even felt that way on the test drive. It must be faster at the track and its more practical in every sense on the street too . I simply prefer the simplicity where a manual offers one gear choice rather than settings which program the choice. I know the setting rule out driver error , provide speed , and can do the work for the driver and various driving styles. It truly is phenominal . It's just not for me .

I bought the then only manual C2S here, one was inbound and has since arrived but it had more options than I wanted or needed. I was coming from a E60 M5 SMG and wanted to go back to three pedals. If I had waited I could have done better but that's the chance I took. The discounts have really come on strong this month.

Anyone looking for a lightly used 997 should be thinking long and hard about a 997.2. The used market must (as we have seen) be tanking. I am sure you are aware that the M3 market is also soft.

My dealer told me they have very few (single digit) C2S allocations for the rest of the year.

Nice to be in your position.

.
I was offered 45 to 50 for the M3 . I thought that was ok .
C2S cars are going to be scarce at some point soon . This is the time to buy NOW.

2010 production will produce less cars to meet the slowing demand .
The 2010 inventory taht was visible on dealership websites were NOT actual cars on their lots but alloted cars for their future .

I was in the basement of my dealership and did not see even one 2010 car . They only had 09's and not that many .

All three dealerships were very nice to me when I called them . Finding the car at the price with picky taste like mine may or may not fly but if that 20 percent off is a possible reality I just can't see overlooking it.

Larry,

I am assuming the C2S will replace your M3. I have to ask why not drive the turbo more. Everytime I go through Porsche withdrawls I go and drive the one I have. Having a Porsche is not like having a Ferrari, Lambo, or Bugatti, these cars want and need to be driven. They are DD high end sports cars, your turbo is near super car level.

Sell the M3, invest the money, and drive the Turbo a lot, in a few years the money you invested will be worth enough to buy another Porsche.

Enjoy.

Why would spend all that money on mods for a Turbo and not enjoy it and drive it. You talk about it being pure and all but it is all modded up and no longer pure Porsche....it's modded....so go drive the car.

i never understood collectible attitude toward cars... i drive all my cars till wheels falling off.
not sure, but if car is too good to be driven and sits in garage 99% of time - it just occupies valuable space. IMHO.

I do drive it. Lower miles simply preserve it and make each limited mile have a more savored and special value. I see no joy in driving in traffic and rain to buy groceries in the Turbo so having a DD spares my car of that type of mileage or wear.

I still haven't totally ruled out the gt3 . I also haven't ruled out keeping the M3 but I won't mod it . The only thing that pushed me to look at the 997S was that 20 percent off this car is THAT GOOD It reveals a combination of a poor economy and Posches over production . It's the sale of a lifetime.

I will have to someday trade or sell my M3 . It has almost 17K miles . I also have more thna one driver in the household. I also live in a city where a cars wear and tear on construction roads or parking lots are no place for 200K Turbo but an 80K 997S is different . Even an M3 is 70K (approx new) .

If I told you I was trading my M3 for a new M3(or another DD) because miles are adding up and its 1.5 years old that's not uncommon or unusual . The big Porsche sale only made me think it sooner . My dislike for the M3 also added to it,

Originally I bought the M3 for my girlfriend . Gasoline price, valet parking at her job, and a long commute for her placed her in the Civic more and me into the M3. If you recall I even considered a 997S too. Maybe now is the time and 1.5 years ago wasn't.
