UPDATED WITH DME: Dealer says DME not necessary for Tip, overrevs not possible, true?

It sounds like it could be true. Says that a DME report is overkill for a Tip car because the computer won't allow overrevs. Obviously I'm just gonna tell him to run it anyway or I won't look at the car, but what do you think?

UPDATE - DME done and incl in post 21. Shows a level 2 but no level 3 overrevs.

i would get him to run it. although the auto tranny won't let you overrev the engine with stock software, you never know if it the software was ever tampered with in the past.

Anytime a dealer tells you that you don't need to know certain information, that is a huge red flag. This guy cannot be trusted. Do double diligence on everything in connection with this deal.

A tip car can be overreved, just put it on P or N and step on the gas...

It will bounce off the rev limiter..you won't see anything but a level 1 over rev.

Anyone know if this is true with a PDK as well? If you hit redline while driving, it might go into Level 1 Overrev, but that's it?

Seems that engine momentum can carry an engine past redline, even with a tip. Even more so with the PDK since it actually disengages the clutch. Should not be a major worry though, since correctly said, with an automatic there is zero possibility of the "money shift". I'm with CMOS though, I don't trust anyone that tries to tell me I shouldn't know something. A dealership told me that Porsche does not allow the release of DME information. No joke. Don't trust anyone.

True, but once again you will only see a level 1 over rev.

PDK will bounce off the level 1 from what i was told. I haven't hit it yet to find out .
Tip won't but I feel that if a dealership isn't willing to go the extra distance to see that you are happy then your best interest about your new car is not in their heart.

Sometimes I'll walk away from a business not because of the price , or the item being sold, but because the attitude simply did not earn my business . If they are not helping you BEFORE they have your money you can only imagine what things will be like AFTER.

Funny that these guys absolutely refuse to give me the DME on this Tip car. I'm def going elsewhere, very strange.

Funny too because running it takes all of 10 minutes to run. Fellow Bruin?? The right car is out there, especially if you are looking for a tip.

Are you sure can't reach the rev limiter when running in the 'M' mode on a TIP car?

Hitting the rev limiter wouldn't necessarily register anything above range 1. You can certainly hit the rev limiter using manual mode.
