Anybody run wheels w/o TPMS?
I've always been very careful about monitoring tire pressure and condition, so I see pretty limited value in the TPMS system. Yes, it could be a rim saver, I admit. Anybody running aftermarket wheels without the sensors? Is there a warning light all the time? Does it make you crazy, or is it no big deal?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I currently don't have sensors in my aftermarket wheels. I have gotten one flat but was pretty quick to pull over when I felt something wrong. No damage to the rim thankfully! Yes, the bright "flat" warning light is always visible. It doesn't bother me anymore. I do plan on getting some sensors installed at some point, but just haven't gotten around to it yet...

Can you remove the fuse for the sensor to make it go away or program so the light doesn't come on? I have it and it's rather annoying and i think it's always a bit off also.
My 997 doesn't have TPMS on it, but my Touareg does. I am happy it isn't on the car as I have heard they often go off on the track when air pressure changes so quickly and dramatically.
Expensive buggers.
I didn't have sensors for my track wheels/tires (do have them for street and winter) and as others have posted the light is on. Also after about 20 minutes there is a warning chime, which is rather annoying as it happens when I'm trying to drive kinda fast and control the car!
I just put sensors on my wheels (bought them used on another porsche -list forum) and will have them at the track at the end of this month, so we'll see if problems emerge with the big changes in tire pressure.

My car came without TPMS and I was really paranoid about tire pressures with such low-profile rubber. So I bought an aftermarket HawksHead monitoring system and it's worked out quite nicely. The sensors are external (i.e. they screw in in place of the valve stem cap) and send signals to a receiver that I mount under the parking brake handle.
It does chirp when the tires get hot, but it can be shut off or reprogrammed and has the added feature of being able to move it to another car if I have to. In theory, I should rebalance the tires after adding the pieces to the stems, but I haven't noticed an issue at Porsche-normal speeds.
I've considered buying another set for my Prius to satisfy my high-mileage urges, but I'd likely get subpoenaed by HawksHead for using a racing product on a hybrid.
