Street friendly racing suspension mods.
definitely wont tear the car apart. it is all about spring rates as well. Our stage 4 package is designed to be tailored to different drivers and what they would like. We ran the stage 4 on our 987.1 cayman turbo for a good 20k miles and test drove people in the car and it was never a turn off.
You do not 'need' COs for neither street nor auto-x. Firm sport suspension is very essential for track, on auto-x stock suspension will be quite adequate.
On most recent event I had an honor to have as instructor our local club auto-x chair, so, now I have to revisit my priorities. As of results - instructor`s time on his custom race built 911 was 65 sec, his rival`s on gt rs3 did 66s. When instructor drove my car, pretty conservatively - he did 71sec. He liked my engine, as he told me and other folks - great car and he could do it 2-3 sec faster if he would push it. I hope he was serious.
So, my best time was 79 sec. Most of experienced folks did in area of 68-75, disregarding if it is an new `09 'S' car or 1998 C2. As a matter of fact most folks on older cars had much better time than owners of 997 cars.
Novices like me were all in 77-83sec, disregarding of car type they drove.
There is much more in driving than in any components one would put into car. I still do not regret any engine mods I did - car revs like crazy and pulls perfectly in higher revs - I liked it a lot - it goes on 2nd gear through entire course like a rocket.
As of suspension - I was told it will take me about 2-3 years to get into stage when it will become essential to replace stock into anything else. So I will postpone this upgrade, for a while.
