i paid almost $45k for my silver/black 2005 997 S back in June.
My does not have full leather or Chrono and it had 30,000 miles.
It is CPO and in perfect condition. I bought it from a private party.
Hope that helps you benchmark.

You still need to be concerned about IMS but to a lesser degree. While I was getting a new engine there was an 06 997 getting a new one also for the same reason.
So it can happen.
Hi there - here's more data for your consideration.
I purchased my 2005 C2S in May of this year - it had 53,000 miles and was a CPO car. Final price was $42K and change.
IMS failure is something to be concerned about - my engine failed 3 months after purchase, but being a CPO car, Porsche took care of it and I now have a brand new engine.
I believe that anyone considering a 2005 should look for a CPO car only - or, shop for a 2006+ if that is not available.

If you're talking about a CPO, then it should still be under $50k these days. When I was looking I hesitated a bit about cars with such low miles, since they are susceptable to RMS issues because they haven't been driven. THat car is 5 years old with no miles. RMS is not that big a deal - if the car is CPO.
If you really like the color, etc., still make sure you check the DME, check for paintwork, tire and brake condition, etc. Good luck with the search. You're in my area, let me know if you need any advice.

I am thinking currently the same.
I have a really nice 05 S in sight with 38k mls for 43.900(dark teal metallic/tan).
The options are quite good: full leather, chrono plus, sportseats, bose etc.
Unfortunately 3 previous owner.
I hope to get this one around 39.000$.

Intermediate shaft issues can arise with some of the engines. It was strengthened (enlarged?) in mid model year 05.
Dec 08 excellence magazine has a good article on the potentail problems.
Been discussed alot in the forums.
Too high. The car is worth in the low 40's and even at that price the better buy would be a newer cayman S with a CP0 . If you are making the stretch to save money going in you picked a year and model with a price too high to justfy the risk . The potential of adding up expenses if repair problems surface is a harsh reality .
try to get one with under 50,000 miles, so if you do the math the person driving did about 7k a year, this let's you know the driver didnt drive it much and the car was his second car. Also send it to porsche and you could check if it was every redlined. they have some for 46,000 with under 40,000 miles on it...

Mid 40's possible depending on warranty.
A newer cayman for low 40's? ..an 07?...what does that give you over a low mileage 05 carrera S.
I have no problem going to a cayman, I think its a great car, just a touch snug for everyday use. But a great car and a terrific track car.
