Question Guys I need your opinion - 997 purchase

Hi guys,
after chasing for 996 - I landed at 997.
My budget is absolut max 45.000$ for a normal 997 Carrera.

2005 and 2006 997 are both available in my price range. But after reading about IMS, RMS and all the fun, I want to head for a 2006.
Max Mileage should be 40.000 -/+.

With this limited budget I have to deal with some restrictions concerning options etc. . I think it will be difficult to find my "perfect" 997 in the area(white, brown, 19", full leather and so on)

Now I found several "interesting" 911. At some I already start to haggle.

First one:
Current Price 41.900$ (used to be 43.700)
Engine was removed, no warranty. No further explaination towards the removal. One Owner.
Good options, but supple and tiptronic ( I still dont know if this is a pro or a con).

Seconde One:
Current Price 45.000$ incl. Shipping without SC Sales Tax(4% off)
One owner, less options, but seat heating, bose and sport exhausts ( easy to mod like a "S-look-a-like". CPO

Third one

No haggle for now.
For sale since months. Options OK - I like the leather.
No warranty. Less Mileage! One Owner

and the last one:
One or two owner - for sale for ages. No able to sell for 40.994$ on ebay.
Nearly "nude" 997. But OK. Warranty should be expired in the last days.

So guys, what is in your mind the best one? What do you think is a realistic price for such 997? Which discount is accessible when paying cash?
I am pretty new to all this haggle stuff

Or might a 996 with my budget better? But in my opinion the 996 interior is a small turnoff (dont take me too serious )

I hope you can help me. I am searching now for over 3 months....I need a 911

In June this year I got my '06 C2 CPO with 40K miles for $39.5K. Everything is possible and I am pretty happy with it.

So keep looking on private market, try to find ones with CPO status, look very carefully from whom you are buying, do PPI of course and good luck.

Be patient and wait for a good deal on a 997. I expect you should be able to get a decent one in your price range in the coming months. Just keep monitoring the ads and you'll find something. Good luck. BTW, I don't believe there is too much to worry about with the 05 997's. I think there has been some exaggeration about problems with them, perhaps related to very early production 05's.

Don't pay over $40k for a standard Carrera. The '06 S's are already coming into the $47k-$49k *asking*...and winter is just getting started. Not to mention other factors like daily bad news on the economy. Be patient, everything is working in your favor right now.

A few other tips:
* Focus on private party sales. The dealers are going to be $2-$4k above a realistic private party.
* Yes you can haggle, and by a lot sometimes depending on the sellers circumstances. Your best bet is to be friendly, tactful, and give it lots of time. Remember that some sellers are into the cars for $100k, so selling at market price can be painful.
* The best way to make an offer that is in your price range, and that won't offend the seller is to present the KBB and Edmunds prices for the car in question. Those sources are hard data that is hard to refute, and they are much lower than the asking prices right now. (For example, Edmunds prices a clean, private party 2006 2S w/40k at $45,888)

Cool

IMHO, spring for the "S" with the 3.8L 355HP engine with some good options.

If you don't have a good reason to get a tip I would certainly stay away and look for a 6 speed car. I would also demand an S in your price range and push towards $40K for a non-S with mileage that high. I would not at all be concerned with 40K on these cars, they seem very well put together.

Red face

Thanks guys for your help so far.

The warranty thing is pretty easy to solve. All dealer offer a extended warranty. I still wait for their quotation.

Your price opinions cheer me up Its good to know that you can get a CPO 2006 for <40.000$. utkinpol what was the asking price? It is pretty difficult to get anything more out of CPO Car - and 45.000$ is pretty high.

I would consider a Tiptronic for myself, because I am pretty lazy to shift
But the otherside is the resale value for a tiptronic featuring grey supple leather

I had a 2005 911 S in sight for 42.500$, but the car had already 3 previous owner and that is a resale value overkill in Germany.

Currently I am only looking at cars.com and autotrader.com. There are only very few private seller. Perhaps I can find a good one here

Sorry, but this I dont get the sense of this sentense (I am from Germany )

Do you mean that the cars could have had a odometer rollback?

On the car with the tiptronic I am a bit worried about the engine removal...

The good thing is that I hold all the aces:

Edit: I just made a price quote for the 2006 CPO - KBB good 42.7k /execellent 44.8k and edmunds says 46.7k for a certified. I think that makes it a bit difficult....

I'm saying that I would not at all be concerned about getting a car with 40,000 miles on the odometer.

Yeah normally 40.000 meiles arent that much.

I drove my 2001 E39 530D(new) until 2007 120k meiles - and the car had NEVER a problem until this meileage...

Cool

You might also consider subscribing to autocheck.com 29.95 for 2 months.
Just a suggestion.

Yeah. Is there any difference between carfax and autocheck? Normally I always get the carfax/autocheck by asking the dealer without any fees.

I hope I get the dealer replys by tomorrow and than we will see. I will get you up to date.

It is really a though decision.

All the car have their good and bad points...

When I was searching for my 997S, I was looking at both dealer and private sellers - Autotrader.com, etc. That's why I had to use Autocheck. It was good to know the car's journey.

As for a TT, I decided against it and opted for a S - 355HP is plenty horses even for the track. My mechanic warned me repairs on a TT are more expensive! Also car is heavier with AWD. But if plan to drive in snow, maybe a AWD would be better. IMHO. GL on your search. BTW, It took me 6 months to find my ride starting with 2006 and ending up with a 2007 for the same price. I was picky on colour and only wanted a 6 spd. coupe. I think the deals are still out there. Patience is a virtue.
