Removing the radial attenna

I am not sure why people order it, but is their an aftermarket replacement for the radial roof attenna that sticks straight up near the back window?

The optional radio antenna is on the front fender at the bottom of the a-pillar near the gas cap. The little bump near the back window is for GPS and XM (I think) - is it the lump you want to replace?

I think he's talking about the rod antenna that is on the roof, at the back near the edge with the rear window. This is optional and most cars don't have it. It is similar to the one that comes standard on the 968s.

Correct. In fact the rod attenna needs to be ordered as an option, for some reason I have a bad feeling that removal then requires bondo and sanding\paint to come out looking like a normal 997

Yes, it most likely will need some bondo and paint to come out looking as if it didn't even have it... not worth the trouble IMO. I'd live with it.

Too bad. I like the rod antenna. Very euro looking. I believe that if you remove it, there will be a hole in your roof.

I'd keep it.

I'd keep it too....A.M. reception on the curent system (w/in-glass) is quite poor....definately a back seat to 996 or 993.
