What's a good deal on a loaded 997 with everything except PCCB? $5k off sticker? $10k off?

there's one nearby in Atlas Grey with charcoal interior that is frickin gorgeous. I was going to wait for the 997TT, but might have to grab this one.

i doubt it. don't get spoiled by 996s.

Ask the dealer, he will give you an idea how much they'll come off, go from there.

Is it possible to buy a car outside of California and then drive it back home to California without issues with smog rules, etc? Maybe it is possible to save 5K in a nearby state like AZ or NV?

Nice try..but you need to drive it for few thousand miles first and bring it in as a used car. Otherwise, they will get you on the sales tax depending on the registration address...

It is fun, but you'll have to get it smog'd and pay the CA sales tax, and other DMV crap.

You will have to get it smogged (no biggie and all Pcars are 50 state smog compliant) but you can use Sacramento Registration Services (916) 480-2700 for about $125 and they'll handle everything including an overnighted temp reg (I've bought 3 new cars out of state and have yet to ever set foot in DMV). Or if you lease (Porsche Financial will not beat Lease Compare on money factor, residual, or price for add'l mile, and therefore payment), the leasing company will handle the DMV stuff for you automatically. Typical savings on $100k to $200k cars bought out of CA are often closer to 7 to 10% (less shipping) and require little to any extra work. Not only that, you will often be treated much better from small and/or other dealers from lower volume states and cities. Going elsewhere is the only way these dealers will become more inline with the US market. BTW, Alfie at IRA Porsche 978.739.8814 is unbelievable. He does more (unsolicited) on sales his dealership in general and he in specific is not even getting paid on than most do who are in on the full cut.

Don't be so sure. Take your best deal (remember you get to pay $1500 or so in shipping) to Hoehn and see what happens!

He didn't say anthing about sales tax savings. Rather, I believe the $5k he was referring to was off the price of the car.

BTW, the old 90 days out of state rule to avoid sales tax was officially changed to 365 days on 10/1/04 and will result in paying tax in the state you registered it for any period shorter than 365 days as well as CA as well as very hefty penalties (40% if memory serves). All that need be necessary to generate the penalties is for the car to be operated on CA roads during that 365 days. That means your first ticket or accident becomes appreciably higher than it ought to!
