Looking at a 2005 997, 42k Miles, 38,500

p ditty; I agree with everything you said except for the 4 "opinion". Personally I like the two for the drive and in my opinion the 4 looks too bloated; therefore you are probably right about the research as a lot of this is preference; so a buyer ought to look around as it is a big investment..

Well thanks everyone. I offered him 36,000 on it. Its low, and sort of insulting, i realize.
And he was indeed insulted. heh. Oh well
I guess I will have to let her go... and maybe I will look for an S

Yeah salesmen are annoying, but you gotta respect em sometimes.
And I am kind of a cheesy salesman type (not in real life AT ALL but online -- im an internet marketer).

No, not your imagination. BMW's are more difficult to shift than the 997's.

Getting the cheapest 997 you can find may not be the best idea. If I were you I'd be patient and allow more of the '06's to come off of lease and look for a good deal. Not sure what your sensitivity is to price, but the S is a lot more car for the money, especially on the 2nd hand market. And the '05 IMS issues were enough for me to seek out an '06. Personally I'd hold out for a CPO '06 C2S, I love mine!!

I recently heard of a couple of recent IMS failures in 06 cars from a local specilalst as well.
The best way to avoid the IMS issue short of buying an 09 or later imo is to get an LN enginnering retrofit bearing and/or an extended warranty. Both of those should offer reasonable protection against a small but expensive risk of an IMS elated failure.
