full AWE exhaust installed today

Hey Guys,

After a lot of deliberation and thinking, I made the decision to do a full AWE exhaust for my 06 C4. Mike at AWE was excellent to deal with throughout the entire process, recommended an installer so I didn't have to go to PA, and even got me on the track at NJMSP. Marc at German Performance in Brighton MA did the install for me today and turnaround time was super fast. So far so good.

...first impressions, no drone at all. Why is that my first impression and not revving it up and getting it to sing? Well...night time commuter traffic and damn Boston rain relegated me to first gear at 2500 rpm for the the entire %#$!$ trip home.

A few massive throttle *blips* at a red light provided a very satisfying gargle on the way back down the range. I have no usable comments on the driving with the high flow cats yet, but I intend to do a late night 3am run (my personal favorite as the city feels like it's yours alone).

...more to come.

AWE has been AWESOME to deal with.....with all of my past purchases!
The sound of the exhaust is intoxicating to say the least.....
Have fun,at 3 am, and BE SAFE when you REV it up into the higher RPM's!

Thanks guys, I'm excited. Safety is my middle...ok, well that's just not true, but I will be. Can't think of anything dumber than getting intimate with a guard rail after waiting patiently for the new parts.

Only 51.2 track miles, you need to work on that! I have about 6500 in the last two years

The AWE system and people are great, congrats on the upgrade.

Seriously, right? ...It was my first ever time on the track. I envy your # and aspire to be at the track that consistently. It's by far the most fun I've ever had.

I think the track is the most fun that you can have with these cars. I am glad that you are enjoying it as well.

Well, now I've got some miles on it. After spending a good amount of time on throttle, off throttle, partialing it at various RPMs I can happily say that I love it. It definitely has woken up the attitude of the car. While I feel there is definitely an improvement in the midrange, I am still unsure if it's serious science or just a psychological reaction to the improvement in sound. Either way, it "feels" fantastic.

The biggest compliment I can give the system (and Mike please don't hate the way I put this) is that it doesn't sound thaaaaat different. I think this is a great thing. Here's why. The AWE is richer, fuller, and more exciting than the stock which sounded thin and soul-less. I equate to the process I go through when I get contracted to do a session for a record. Yes, the pickups that come in Les Paul are good pickups, and yes the tubes that come in the amps I use sound good...but it's when you get into the finer aspects of tweaking with variations that you really get something special. In essence, that's what is happening here. My car was great before, but now it sounds like the best possible version of itself. Not obnoxiously loud, not exotic at the expensive of the original platform, but throaty, rich, toneful, and refined.

I think it's the way the car is meant to sound. I know that exhaust is as subjective a topic as what the best PAF style humbucker is the best for us guitar guys....so I'm just happy I've found what works for me. Thanks for reading.

Congratulations on your exhaust. Have you thought about getting a Dyno done to see what kind of numbers you are getting. I have a stock 2005 911 with no mods to the engine. Just got a Dyno done today to give me a base line to see what gains I would get if any on some exhaust upgrades planned for this year. The cost was only $110 for 3 runs and it only took about an hour including set-up and everything. Might be interesting to see what kind of numbers you are getting at the rear wheels.

Thanks Echo. Ya know, a dyno is definitely something I should have done prior to get a baseline . For some reason, I just spaced out on it...I think it was for over excitement about new parts. I'm going to search out and have it done, solely so that I have some cool information. To be 100% honest, the mods I'm doing I'm doing solely for my own enjoyment of the vehicle, so I'm not going to lose sleep over whether or not I get that extra 3hp...that being said, who wouldn't like more? haha.
