I finally did it, yeah i'm an heretic...
 

Despite all advices that strongly recommended NOT doing that, i had the feeling i had to try.

What's so bad about ?

Well, not only i installed 19's on front and 20's rear, but i also mixed front Yokohama AD08 with rear Pirelli's Pzero.

Some said i could put my life in danger by doing so. Well, i'm not dead yet. I could've been in danger pushing too far my not-to-be-missed Hankook's V12, though...

First, i had this set of OZ Superleggera wheels that i got powder coated in orange color. Very different look of what i'm used to, but i like it. So far i don't really feel the unsprung weight difference regarding acceleration but i do feel it on braking and overall handling feeling. But still, it's hard to say because it's also new tires that feels very different.

Conclusion ? No conclusion yet. It's fresh installed. Not broke-in yet. I will wait several hundred miles to make a final appreciation.
But so far ? Wow. There is NO WAY one can appreciate the matched hankooks more than this mismatched Yoko/Pirelli combo. And i didnt even play with the air pressure yet.

I love my car even more today.

Interesting color combo, would look even better with a bodykit :)

I don't know if it was smart to go with 2 different tires though... Hopefully it will work out without endangering your life

forgot to mention:

I had before 235-30-20 and 305-25-20 (Hankook V12)

now it's 245-35-19 and still 305-25-20

Only thing that bugs is my damptronics CO's rear adjustement: the gap seems too high compared to the front. But may be it should be like that.

I think the orange offsets the gray wonderfully. More daring than I'd be comfortable with but striking for sure. Enjoy!

What could possibly be problematic ?

Maybe AWD cars. Mine is not.

Maybe cars with 50/50 weight distribution. Mine is really not.

Maybe cars with same F/R tire size. Mine is not.


Even with matched tires, the wear is never even front/rear, so it's clear that front and rear are not doing the same job and are not exposed to same stress.

Therefore, the argument that predictability on the road from the tires can be dangerously compromised when using different models/type (but matched on same axle, of course) is questionnable, at best.

So, WHAT could be dangerous ? For the few miles i had today with this mismatched set-up, i had the strong impression that is really more predictable than matched Hankooks. I'm more confident with this set-up than i was before.

Would it be different in 500, 1000 or 5000 miles ? Maybe.

Would it be different at 170mph ? Maybe.

But i can see no logical explanation of how it could be dangerous or even not good performance wise.

Aside from the color of the wheels it looks good! I can appreciate a staggered (19"&20") setup. As long as handling isn't negatively affected, I don't see any reason not to run this on your car.

As far as the different tires go, just make sure the speed ratings are equal. Running different brands/treads/etc shouldn't bring any problems, it's not like the rear tires are going to perform adversely due to different front tires or vice versa.

The color combo was a bit inspired by the 2010 GT3 RS :)

Yeah that's what i think about tires being different front/rear. I cannot conceive by any means that all their individual properties can be ruined because each tire ''sense'' that other axle's tires are not from the family...

What would be interesting though is making comparisons with PS2's and Toyo's (and maybe other track oriented tires)

I think it looks good. It's a bit too flashy for me...I would think that it will bring a lot of attention. I also don't think that non-Porsche people will understand the color choice, but then again, who cares. If it were me, I'd try to figure a way to get more orange onto the car to compliment the rims...mirrors, some stripes?

no comment on wheels, but poor judgment with different tires.

try driving really fast in curvy wet roads, you will then appreciate why you need tires with matching threads.

i'm comfortable with the orange wheels, but i think Porsche overdid it with orange parts and sticker. But hey! it's a 2010 GT3RS, need we say more ? :-)

I don't tend to drive on wet roads, especially not "really fast", but thanks for the advice i will surely keep an eye on that aspect

Those wheels really pop. love the look. i have the same exterior color as you but I'm not as brave...
