Thought I'd seen everything.....until this AM

Driving to the airport, South San Francisco. Driving at the limit, I get passed by a cop doing about 80mph. 30 sec later I see a 911 coming up faster. I put out my hand and give a slow down signal thinking I could save one of us a $500 ticket. He doesn't slow down at all and blows past even faster. Turns out the 911 (997) is another CHP officer with no lights, but otherwise normal markings. 911's now official State vehicles? Now I know why California is broke. Wish I took a pic.

GT3 Chuck Jun 27, 2010 01:16 PM

Amazing! Last week here in the Tampa area our cops are driving unmarked consumer looking Ford F150's!

CHP is state.........as for the car it could be something that was seized. Dont know the specifics. OP hasnt responded.

ggregory Jun 27, 2010 01:50 PM

Yep, that looks like the one

Makes sense with the Carlsen plate. Bay Area Porsche dealer in the South Bay.

jaspergtr Jun 27, 2010 01:58 PM

Of course... Because we need 911's paid for by our tax dollars.

NorthVan Jun 27, 2010 02:14 PM

Nice Police Car!

It could also be a educational tool to teach kids that cops are cool. Often cars are donated by local dealerships.

adias Jun 27, 2010 02:33 PM

Those shots are not real CHP cars; those are decals used in PR events, such as concours and such. Today is the Palo Alto Concours; I wonder if that car was heading there - of course at high speed because they can...

If what the OP saw was a real CHP car it's news in CA. There are however seized sports cars (including 911s) in some southern states.

My $ is on the Palo Alto Concours. Carlsen Porsche usually loans them a black car to dress up with CHP decals to act as lead escort for the parade. I didn't go this year but they have had everything from Boxsters to a 911 Turbo in the past.

bradyb Jun 27, 2010 07:43 PM

CHP had better not be buying 911's for patrol cars - not even a single one. That would be a really (really) bad move right now. It's just so sad what this state has become.

Here's a big thanks to all the unions! A job well done!

syaero Jun 27, 2010 08:49 PM

Like Adias says, this is a PR car, not a real CHP car. I've seen quite a few of them at various auto shows over the years.

No worry, our tax $$$ is being put to better use! :)

Well, different use. There's plenty of bad decisions being paid for with our money.
