Best time to buy 2010 leftover?
Hello, new here. Looking to buy 2010 C4S. When is the best time to buy a 2010 leftover? I seem to remember last year the 2009 lefterovers were going for about 20k under sticker. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
When there are just 2-3 left in a big region around you, and they're getting old. With the C4S that might be soon, with others it could be a year. Just watch inventories...especially if you find one equipped the way you like.
I saved just over 5% from the original MSRP on my '10 C2; I was ok with that (I just bought the car earlier this month). I have a sneaky feeling that I might have done a bit better.. I'll never know.
Like many of those in here who 'buy', and don't lease their P-cars, I'm never 100% sure that I've done as good at negotiating the price as I'd like to think that I can. I hate buying new cars for that reason.. Normally I'd really like to get a big, wet, sloppy kiss before I get hosed..
When you get serious about pulling the trigger, have a figure in mind, and stick with it. If that means you gotta 'walk', then 'walk'.. If they want (or need) to sell the car, they'll call you back. Otherwise, write the check, set the pen down, then bend over and grab your ankles...
One thing to remember is that as the end of the '10 model year comes closer, the selection of available cars is going to decrease. You may end up in a position where you'll have to settle for a car that's less than what you really want, because you feel compelled to wait for the right deal.
Good luck!

the dealer tells me last summer was an unusual situation arising from lag in cutting production in MY09 models resulting from economic dislocation suffered in 2008.
Porsche cut production in MY10, and as a result there's less inventory, less big discounts and residual values are holding much better.

You will not have the deals that we had last year because the inventories are not as plentiful. However, I do think that you will be able to walk in now and get a decent deal depending on the dealer. I suggest you locate the car you want and work a deal on it. If you need to walk away, then be prepared to do so. However dont expect to get 24% off an 2010.

I would not even look at a 2010 car UNLESS the dealership knocked at least 10 percent off . In fact the 2011 cars get the center radiator BTW.
Your leverage is -
1) It's one model year old
2) New car has improvements
3) Plenty of used cars available
4) Time is on the side of the buyer
5) Money is better off in their pocket than collecting dust sitting in a showroom.
The way in which dealerships have recently priced the used and new cars and the general attitude observed (opinion) -- it's as though selling a new car is doing you a favor .. I find it so despicable that I would be hard pressed to say "write a check and tear it up if they say no" .
Especially now that its the end of the month when unit sales count.
Call several dealership and see who is eager to work . Lately I find across the board in almost every occupation too many people behave as though they not happy and that attitude is making its way into business and it hurts sales .
If you want to buy a car .. I'd say look at private owners . They have been so low balled on their trade in value that they are the ones who wil give the best deal.

Nothing wrong with 2009 cars but if you can get a great deal on 2010 I would go for it due to market value of the newer car. I would stay away from the 2008 since it is not DFI and several other features.
The best time to get a 2010 leftover is when the 2012s are about to hit the dearships. I got a great deal on my 2008 ( 23% off the sticker). No DFI means slightly less hp ( which you cannot feel) and no HPFP wich can give you probelms. I know as I have a BMW 535 with DFI.
I would also imagine you can get the best deals when a newer model year that has significant changes are already hitting showrooms. For example, the '08 leftovers probably went for way under MSRP because the '09s had some significant changes (they even call it the 997.2). I would imagine the same will happen when the 991 comes out for 2012 (I think it is?).
On another note, I seem to always buy cars in the first model year of a new generation. While some will say it's risky, I've had pretty good luck with it, and love that I can buy a slightly used car that still looks like the new ones. I got my '05 997S right as the 997.2's were coming out. I think this helped bring down the prices on 997.1's...
