Better be careful of attending track and club events!!!

If you have an engine problem you will be in for it if you end up in arbitration.

I went today with a friend and PCNA produced every autocross he went to , his final year end class finish, web site printouts of his times and even club magazine that showed him in 1st place.

All this to claim he abused his car and to try to avoid a buyback of the car which pours white smoke after driving it hard and 2 RMS's so far.....

I can see them saying the DME showing his overrevs but to bring all that PCA club data to the table is unreal!!!

Buyers beware!

So is track use covered under the warranty for the 997 and your CGT . And if it is not how much fun can track driving be if you know the car is not covered by warranty ... then you find out that your insurance is not covering the car on the track ... and on the highway there are unmarked Highway Patrol coming up behind you to catch you speeding . I have done European delivery twice and both times to be on the autobahn for hours at a time driving at very high speeds was such a pleasure knowing it was all legal and I was insured . That is the most fun I have with my cars is european delivery when I get them home in the states the party is kind of over and I find myself looking forward to the next European delivery where I can drive the car like it was made to be driven . When I do go to the track out at Willow Springs I am so paranoid that if I damage the car it is not insured it really takes so much of the fun away for me . I do see the ultra rich out there and if they wreck their car it is just a matter of a money for them and it does not bother them .

How about anyone else ... where do you drive your car the way it was meant to be driven . I see so many gasp in horror if you even talk about 20 " wheels ect. and how it will take away that high performance edge . Again I get so frustrated having a car with so much power and no place to really drive it fast and hard . Where does everyone drive to really push their cars . And as far as a CGT well I do not know to many places I could really enjoy the limits of that car . Am I just too paranoid or something .

Ben, what if one drives his car on a casual "fun run"? Does that have reference in the warranty language as well, or just a track event?

Donna I do not believe Porsche will ever go on record and state failures as a result of track work will be covered. However, when it does happen, I suspect that so long as there is no evidence of abuse the fact that it occurred while tracking will not prevent Porsche of honoring the warranty. Also it helps to have the dealer on your side.:)

Your other point regarding usefulness of a high performance sport car is an excellent one. Owners of sport cars are beginning to feel like a rain forest witnessing encroachment and a slow death. Each year traffic laws become more strict with better enforcement devices. For an example, in some areas if you are caught racing (having fun on a twisty road?) they can confiscate your car with the possibility of not getting it back. In today's world, speeding is frowned upon and severly penalized.

We owners of sport cars are an endangered species trying to swim upstream.:(

Now, do you think sawing the wheel in twisties increases the chance of sports car confiscation due to excessive speed, or would the non-sawing enthusiasts be more apt to be nabbed? ;)

Sean lost his arbitration and Porsche won claiming abuse (autocrossing)!

Thats like buying peanut butter and not being able to use it on bread.

Corvette now says that track useage will not void your warranty. There is a difference in sane track use and dumping the clutch and hurting the car drag racing. Is there more to the story than published here.

Probably.

I'm happy to report after further investigation into this matter, there were extenuating circumstances (which i won't discuss) which should allow us all to ignore this incident rather than consider it something to expect from porsche.

cnc Apr 4, 2005 09:22 PM

Amazing, how you can"bad mouth" Porsche, then do a complete turn around and "proclaim" you are not going to discuss it.

Your objectivity leaves a lot to be desired!

i merely stated the facts as i had rec'd them previously (unfortunately from one side). i'm merely stating i rec'd the rest of the facts. after "bashing", you think it reflects a lack of objectivity to do a "complete turn around"? to me, i'd call such an action the epitomy of objectivity. btw, if you can't understand that rec'g this sort of confidential information (about which litigation has been involved) req'd a promise on my part not to blirt it out on the internet, i'm sorry. when i expressed the facts as i was told them before, there was no such agreement not to blirt them. bottomline, if i give someone my word to keep my mouth shut about particulars, you can take it to the bank that i'm going to do just that. if you act otherwise, in addition to not having much integrity, i bet you don't get information in the future which requires trust.

i posted this information tonight to make sure porsche/PCNA's reputation was not injured as a result of us only getting part of the story before.

cnc Apr 4, 2005 09:41 PM

Like I said..amazing!

The fact is that one needs to stay under the radar and keep a low profile if involved in track events with their Porsche.

They carry a bigger stick than all of us combined and its best not to mess with mother nature.

End of Story

Is it true that Porsche had documentation regarding all tracking events as well as computer printouts showing the various over revvs? You sat in on the arbitration and claimed they had this information. Did they have it and did they present it to the arbitrator? Surely you are not denying that happened or are you?

As far as your friends case and its validity in my mind that is irrelevant to this thread. What is important is what information Porsche had and how they got it.:(
