What's up with these cupholders???

I realize that Porsche Engineers had a lot to consider when designing and re-designing this wonderful 997 S that I drive today, but does it bother anyone else that the CUPHOLDERS are very small. It is especially important for a 6 speed transmission....both hands are kinda occupied.

cupholders? mine has stirrups, but i usually keep a bottle of water in it with the lid on.

I apologize in advance....you do know they are adjustable?....mine fit just about any size short of the biggest gulp one can buy...now having the various containers sit flat like in a BMW, that is another matter....

How big of a drink do you want to hold in these cup holders? I prefer not consuming food or beverage when driving my Porsche.

Never used mine. I think I saw them once when the dealer was showing me all of the features before I drove off the lot. As for size, those silly Germans probably didn't give any thought to the fact that Americans have portion problems.

Really?

A cupholder complaint thread here? Surely there's an SUV forum someplace.

as said above

they are adjustable. just pull out and they will fit just about anything you want to put in them. I'm actually very happy with the design because I love how clean the cabin is with the hidden cup holders. if there were not any cup holders at all it would not bother me.

X2!

Just another distraction @ best.

It's a German car... You'd think it'd hold a German cup ...

The designers and engineers at Porsche said, " you want a cup holder do you? Well, here you go!"

Someone there got an MBO for over designing the simple cup holder for sure. One of those, be careful what you wish for things.

It's really useless. For the record, I use holders (for a bottle of water) on long trips and I was more distracted trying to use the holder the way it was designed than if they installed a simple one in the first place. It's pretty unusable for sure but it is a thing of beauty from an engineering perspective.

porche does claim that they're heated or cooled, depending on the climate controlled settings - because they're right in front of the vents :)

ntlgnt1 Aug 24, 2010 11:44 AM

I think they're brilliantly designed and I use mine all the time.

+1

I'm considering starting a thread about the dim lighting on the visor lights.
