lug Rusty Nuts
 

I have read the post on how to remove and re paint your lug nuts (Great post)
… Sure I can do that … I will have to buy a torque wrench but what are my other options?

1. Remove, sand and re paint

2. Buy new:
a. From Who?
b. How much?
c. What kind (black, silver or chrome?
d. Does anyone have a parts number?

3. Take it to the dealer and let them change them out?
a. Will I get a stupid star for effort?
b. Will they over charge me?
c. Is it under warrantee?

4. paint over the rust with silver paint?
a. a STUPID LAZY star?
b. Poor looking MESS?

The rusty Nuts are … well … driving me NUTS.

Talk to Wheel Enhancements (board sponser). They are well informed and very helpful.

Remove, and repaint. It is easy to do and can be redone as needed.

Oh, a legit question, my bad! LOL

I just dabbed some silver enamel on the face of the bolts, didn't remove them at all. You only see the tops anyway. Mine have held up for months so far.

Unless you are entering concours, I wouldn't overthink this detail.

+1 I could've saved myself a lot of time if I had just left them on and painted the tops. However, I did use the opportunity to also paint the visible part of the rotor hub, which makes a much bigger improvement than the painted lug bolts.

The Fix
 

I ended up just painting the tops

I used a drill with a wire wheel, not hitting the wheel just the tops. cleaned and painted

Check out the before and after.

Im so happy with the results, the rust was driving me NUTS.

Wow. They look great. Am amazed you didn't damage the wheels using the method you did but your results look terrific.

Or check with Ralph Boothe - He has some great spacers, lugs, and center caps available. I have his lugs and spacers.

I find having a 19mm socket and a Craftsman digital torque wrench makes keeping the lug bolts looking like new. Since I posted the 'DIY' I've pulled two bolts back out and re-sprayed them. It takes 5 minutes.

I bought a set of chrome wheel bolt from him 2 years ago. It's not cheap but the quality was much better than others!

He sounds like a pensioner-hope he hasn't taken retirement yet!
