997.2 BBS CH-R's: my Impressions

Okay well have been looking around to update my '09 997.2 Carrera S and came to the point of considering changing wheels as my next step. So off to tirerack, discount tires, wheelenhancement, and purusing numerous post here on Rennlist as well as throughout the internet and after a few weeks of looking I decided on the new BBS CH-R wheels 19" which recently came available for the Porsche in proper fitment with OEM caps. Like Champion's offerings and Fiske as well, HRE gave me 2nd glances and all did cause wistfull glances and 2nd thoughts but in the end the BBS offered what I wanted in terms of looks, quality, price, and availability so they got the nod. Also my 11 y/o son gave them the deciding vote as well...so color?

Racing Green Metalic could be had as I inquired to a few places as a special order repaint by a local shop but that was overkill. Hypersilver...nice but too much like my OEM Carrera S II wheels (why change really if that was the choice) but ohh look the BBS wheels are offered in a satin black too! After looking at a few pics of GT3's and other black color combos...I decided and placed an order with Dave at Wheel Enhancements (they were a pleasure to work with...awesome and anwsered all questions and helped gudie me thru options and alternatives) and today wheels came and off to the dealership for fitment and swapout of my OEM set.

So impressions? Ride is great 19" same as before and so far can't tell any difference. The BBS CH-R's take OEM sensors so that's a plus and I just reused my own rather than pay $400+ for new ones. Dealer used new valves as is their prefered policy...no problems there and I used a set of Satin black/silver Porsche hubs which I procurred aftermarket (good color match and fitment was excellent..60mm). Tires..reused my Bridgestone OEM Re's which came with the car (only have 5500m on fronts due to swap out at sale of car and 7000m on rears so why buy new ones) and now to the most important impression...looks/asthetics. Hmm I like em. I think as my mom always said basic black goes with almost anything. The silver rim protector does give the wheel some more detail and serves to highlight the wheel along with the studs/locks and silver crest on the center caps. I chose black cause of 1) it seems to give the car a slightly more agressive look but does it more subtly and muted due to the color 2) it hides brake dust which seems to always be an issue if you drive alot and drive hard no matter how much rejex or wheel wax you use..and I have found that darker wheels just hide it better...not that you don't need to still clean em 3) black vs silver well everyone has hypersilver wheels and although some look great (HRE P40, Champion - all of em); I felt that if I got silver then I might as well keep the OEM Carrera S II wheels which aren't bad at all (I had replaced my old OEM 18" Carrera wheels on my previous 05 Carrera with a set of Carrera S lobsters 19" and loved the classic look there too) and finally 4) I felt that the black wheels/look of the BBS CH-R's gave the car a look slightly remeniscent of the GT3's (see pic below) and a few of the older dark/deep green porsches I found pics of with the black/silver Fusch type wheels as well as a few 944 and 928's I found with a similar dark green and black color combo...so I considered it a hommage to them in my own way.

So okay enough of my verbose typing and impression...on to the pics you've all been waiting for or at least were if you were reading this post! LOL So all comments good and bad are welcome...we're all adults and like many have said before to others..."you're the one who has to like it" in the end. Dealer service manager liked the new look (of course) and suggested I add the "Carrera S" vinyl graphic in black on the bottom rocker panels but not to sure on that one yet.

But hmm I think the new techart 997 aerokit may be next!

A plus factor would be adding colored wheel crests.

Love the look! Don't add the graphics, doesn't work on the Carerra.

From a vendor on ebay! They are aluminum not plastic and cost about $80 set. Came out looking pretty good.

Nope just seeking opinions and sharing my choice. I have gotten nothing but thumbs up on them so far except for the wife who says they are more masculine and agressive looking than the original ones...thus she would be less likely to drive it now. Yes...opss I mean I am sorry to hear that!

No but may take my old lugnuts off and paint them with silver coat to cover the rust...why do OEM Porsche lugs always rust and look horrible? Found chrome ones but the price $12 each yikes (boothe design).
