Buying a Porsche
Buying a Porsche
Hope this post is welcome and in the right spot.
I'm looking at buying a Porsche and I'm not really sure exactly what to get.
I'm thinking of C4S and then doing some aftermarket work to it visually. I like the very aggressive look that many of you have done with your 997's and I think I'd want to follow something along those lines.
In terms of speed, I'm looking for something more practical which is why I'm shying away from the turbo. Everyone I know that has had a Porsche tells me that reliability is not an issue at all with these cars so long as you take good care of them so I'm curious as to why one would pick one over the other.
I've had the chance to ride in a GT3 and while they're great, I don't know if it's something I'd want to deal with on a daily basis since this car would be used for daily use.
Any input would be great but I still have a hard time believing that these cars are really as bulletproof as everyone keeps saying.

Your description leads me to believe you've already narrowed your selection to a 997... not a bad thing (since you posted your RFI in the 997 section... doh!..
).
We all have opinions, and I suppose that everyone you ask will likely give you a different answer. Those who prefer all-wheel drive will insist you buy a '4'... those who don't see a need will tell you a '2' is all the car you need. Others will insist you buy a cabriolet, while others will lean toward a coupe - and even others will suggest a Targa.
Not to mention the 6-speed vs PDK debate..
As far as reliability goes, don't ask us, ask those at JD Powers.. who just rated Porsche #1 in reliability for the third consecutive year.
Personally I think you already know what you want, you just want your support group (us) to tell you to 'go ahead.. pull the trigger'..
So.. "Bang!".. go for it... you won't hate yourself in the morning.

Love my 4S. Was originally looking for a '2' for lighter weight and less traction
But this particular 4S was the right deal, and the hips add some 'exotic' to an already brilliant package. Had it since April and reliability has been perfect.

Have had 4 or 5 997's from reg Carrera cab, couple turbos, stick and Tip to Cab 4S pdk. All were/are excellent DD's and very reliable and very reasonable to service. You really can't go wrong with any of them. The hardest decision is which particular model/spec to purchase. Good luck.
