New(sorta) looking wheels.....18's
3 Attachment(s)
So I decided to give my 18's a quick paint job. I know powder coating would be better but money and time, mostly time were issues. Just got my 997 and I didn't want her on jack stands for a week. Sprayed Satin Black.....oh and a black carrera emblem too.
Thanks Guys for all the advise so far. Next up is tint, Gundo hack, and a Denison iPod interface. Oh and I apologize for the crappy cell phone pics, waiting for a sunny day to take some nice pics |
Looks great. I plan to spray mine gray but picking out the right shade may take the better part of a year.

Darren,
The wheels look great. Can you provide more details, such as how you prepped the wheels, whether you used any clear coat, etc? Thanks. |
Love the look of black wheels on Seal Grey.

Seal grey is a great color, enjoy that bad boy in good health !

Thanks guys, I def love the new look.
So I hate to say this but the wheels are just rattle can. Satin black by Rust Oleum. Lots of prep work and easy going on a few light coats and they look great. I took my time sanding the cleat coat, then ,masking them off properly including the valve stems. Removed the center caps and masked off the emblem too. Couple light coats of paint and letting them dry in a heat box, and done. I'm very happy with the results and the satin is the pefect gloss. I know this is blasphemy for a Porsche, but here's my theory. I figure its about $500 to powder coat them, I have a whopping $15 in paint invested and it they start to look like crap I can always get them done right. Besides, lets be honest the Carrera 3 wheels are bland anyways......had to spice em up a bit! |

somehow it just looks 'right' on her despite all those nice aftermarket options. i just added spacers to have those wheels leveled right on the sides. |
Hmm.. I don't know.. it's a $90+K car.. another $500 in powdercoating makes more sense to me than $15 in spray cans. I'm thinking that the paint will chip easily, and you'll end up getting them coated anyway.

I spray painted my old 996 twist wheels with high temp engine enamel and had zero issues until I totalled the car.
