RFI / Mina Gallery's lower mesh grill (radiator) covers
Wondering if anyone has installed Mina Gallery's mesh grill covers. They come in 'highly polished stainless steel', and semi-gloss black. If you don't want/need the center cover, you can buy just the two side covers.
With only 3,000 miles on the car, I'm surprised at the number of small dings/dents in my two front radiators. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on a pair of side covers in black for my '10 Carrera. It might be cheap insurance and prevent me from being stranded with a broken rad... http://www.mina-gallery.com/model-pa...le-carrera.htm Anyone have any experience with these covers? http://www.minaginc.com/Minainc/Prod...s/997-mesh.jpg |
Wow, $275 to make the car look hideous.
I don't think so. |

I think they'd look OK in black - hopefully that picture just exaggerates them. |
Kooks kinda goofy to me.
|
If I get 'em, they'll be in black, and I'll only do the two side vents, not the center one.
I'd rather the car look a tad bit goofy than to get a hole in the rad in the mountains of BFE.. with no cell service. ;) I'm assuming the black screens will 'disappear'. |

I know some one that tried similar ones on his Carrera, he ended up taking them off as he had cooling problems on the track.
|
Agree...
Guys, looking at those, they remind me of the old rubbber-grommet surround grilles they made for the 996s, and they never really mounted well. That being said, if these mount better, that's +1. However, I agree totally with Northvan, they don't look like they let a lot of air through, and I would definitely have cooling problems on the track, or during one of my group drives on Sunday morning :D

Pre-made grills are also available with separate grills for each of the sections on the radiator grills. One each for the top and bottom of each side which look a bit less noticeable. They are equally expensive though. If cost is no object I'd go with the upper - lower grill approach and get them in black. Leaving out the center grill will make them visually less over powering. If you want to save a few bucks I have also seen DIY on this board and others that looked great and where a good deal less expensive than the pre-made versions. I have located several sites where the grill material itself can be obtained for a fraction of what you're looking at now. If you're interested PM me and I'll send you the .com's. |
I think in black would look good. Agree the silverish looks weird.

http://www.zunsport.co.uk/product.asp?id=183 I have the full set on my CS :) I do like the looks of the black grills 'behind' the stock openings on the black 997.1. FWIW, I was quoted $175 for the two side grills, w/o the center grill from Mina's. |
Do they replace the original grilles in the side vents? |

Unfortuneately, they don't show an application for 997.2s in their website.
I think I'm going to go with Rennline. They might be more of a PITA to install, but that's because they work better and don't look as obvious. |
The Rennlines are more subtle, and I could be mistaken, but I think they let more air through (less restrictive). A flat or satin black paint or powercoat/anodization would be perfect on that.
