Brake shims... Can I keep them in with race pads?

Should I keep in or remove the brake shims when installing race pads. My pads fit in fine with them in place, so there is no clearence issue. I'd rather leave them in so the swap back to street pads is quicker. Is there any harm or negative effect to leaving them in with race pads?

The shims I'm talking about are those with the clips that actually go into the piston, not the sticky shims that are basically part of the pad.
