a triumphant return to 6speed...Bill and Ted style
Hi Guys,
After a several month hiatus from the forum, I have returned and have a story to tell. Didn't want to post a running monologue, since it wouldn't really have done a lot of good. As some of you know, I had a rather extensive audio install done a while back and after many speaker and amp swaps got it to where I wanted, sound-wise. I now offer a cautionary tale about having anything placed in the front trunk space, especially if your car ever sees some time outside...or in weather of any kind. The drains in the front surrounding the battery are devilishly small and, while with some due diligence, you'd never have an issue...life rarely goes as planned.
However, what do you do if your car is parked outside in Boston and the city gets hit with a 3 day monsoon of epic proportions. You may expect that since it has rained once or twice in Germany before, that Porsche's got it covered, and you'd be ok, but you still go out in the rain to check your drains (because you're paranoid) and find that they're functioning perfectly fine and you go back inside.
An hour and a half later you receive a phone call and it's off to work.
You would then naturally assume that because the rain has stopped, and you were just recently out there, that there would be no reason to suspect anything would be wrong. Yet, despite best efforts, you walk out and hear what sounds like a foley session from a B-grade sci-fi movie. Immediately you pop the hood lid and find this.

3 inches of water in the front in less than 2 hours. The car sounded like it wanted to blow up, so you have your car towed like this:

to the closest dealer (Herb Chambers Boston...so close i could have pushed the car from my house.) Now, I had heard alot of stories about that dealer that were not so positive, but I would like to go on record as saying that the new service manager Adam went above and beyond for me, draining the water, storing the car inside their shop, coordinating with Paul Miller in Jersey, and not charging me a cent.
After painful 3 month process of going back and forth with Paul Miller (drain service had previously been performed and paid handsomely for, yet even with my own maintenance failed to perform) and my insurance company not being familiar with (but never denying coverage of) any of this kind of custom work...I finally have my car back.
Major props to the Sound Waves crew of Dennis, Sam, Joe, and especially Chad (who did alllll the fabrication and audio work) to bring my car back and, in fact, make it better than it had ever been. For piece of mind, everything was moved into the cabin, a custom fiberglass enclosure was made to hold the amps and subwoofers and was then wrapped in suede to perfectly match the headliner. Chad put in a full 2 weeks of work taking the entire car apart and making sure everything was dry (something my dealer neglected to do, even though they were paid for it...again) and then rewired the entire car.

Now this may not to be everyone's taste, but I could not be more pleased with the way it came out.

The rear seat backs and seat belts were removed and the whole new enclosure with amps and speakers actually comes in at slightly less weight than before...performance mod? haha.
Thanks for reading my unnecessarily long post, just had to finally detail the entire story from start to finish. Coming on the forum when I was going through such a hassle would have been like watching some new guy take out your hot ex-girlfriend...yeah, you know it's a good time, but you really don't want to be reminded of it.
As an added bonus, I can light it up at night if I feel like it...
