We tested the lights on different years of Turbo and Carrera without foglight bulbs install. There are no warning light on the dash regarding with the rear fog light. As you know we're located at Vancouver Canada and all car we use for testing are Canadian spec. with DRL.

to make this clear. i don't think the 05 carrera ; 07 997tt ; 08 carrera S, that we tested here in california has any DRL.
the rear fog goes on whenever the tail running light is on. and when you turn on the rear fog additionally. one will go at a brighter stage.
DRL should only turn on some part of your head lights, however nothing should be on in the tail lights unless you turn them on.

actually the rear fog light goes on whenever your rear running light is on. however when you turn on the fog lights additionally, one side will go to a brighter stage. you will only have error code if you do not install them. however the issue right now is the factory clear bulb does not look good in the new led tail lights plus cops might think your rear tail lights is malfunctioning

hmmm.. for the 07 tt that we tested. i left the rear fog un-installed. and it did not give me any error code. but however for my 05 carrera and the 07 carrera s we tested. the factory rear fog bulb has to be installed otherwise error code will go on as soon as you turn on your rear running lights.

lets put it this way. the rear fog light setup for the led tail lights has no difference as the oem version. so if the rear fog light bulb is out, the dash board should give an error message so you need to check on the lights. same story for the new led tail lights, as the oem bulb still sits on the oem harness and only difference is that the oem bulb now sits in the new tail lights instead of the OEM one. hope this make little bit more sense to you. so what you think if the bulb is left uninstalled would happen.
in my theory for some of the 997tt, the error code won't be triggered. but for all carrera and carrera s. error code will be triggered if you left the fog bulb uninstall

now what im working on is to find some red colored bulbs who matches porsche's spec. or even some led bulb setup for the rear fog light function

Here is an idea, leave the fog lights plugged in but don't attach it to the tail light housing. Use a zip tie or something to let it safely hang behind the housing. Error code problem solved!

your idea would work. however if you have a turn. my setup would allow you to either use it or leave it un-plug. both way won't have error code!!
only for 997 tt tho

i do not think they are exactly the same
pls beware, any seller that's outside of 6speedonline forum shall not know all these resistor and fog light issues. therefore i don't think that setup will work

I have been debating getting these tail lights since i saw them posted on this forum. When i saw the post about the fog light issue it kind of turned me off on getting them so i havent purchased them yet. Anyway, since i am still interested, i did a search for red bulbs that could replace the clear ones. I found this site online that carries chromed red bulbs.

http://www.xenonmods.com/chromebulbindex.htm

No idea what they are like or how this company is. I just google searched it and this site came up.

If the bulb is clear, I don't see this as being solved if you use the fog light in inclement weather. But then again.. Hmm.. Now that I think about it, I don't think I would be driving this car in bad weather..... so I've been wasting my time searching for this red bulb.

Oh well. anyway for those that want the bulb to glow red instead , This is a bulb that produces red light when lit but is coated in chrome so it's not visible during the day when the lights are off. Painting a bulb red would work but you would see a red dot in there during the day, similar to the egg yolk effect but in red.

You are right. I didn't realize that the rear fog light had to be red. Here in the US it is not a requirement at all so i will never use it. I am just glad that i don't have to deal with error codes in case i turn it on by accident.

The 997 manual says we need P21/4 W. Is that the same as BAY-15D?

I found these BAY-15D red LED bulbs but I am not sure if they would work: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...115x-x3X1W.htm

Can someone confirm that these would work please? They are 4W do you think they will still throw error codes?
