2006 997 S - Thoughts on price plus some Q's
 

Hello to all. I am very active on other car forums but this is my first post here. Thinking of getting into a 911 and have located a 2006 S, Slate Grey over Black. Some details as follows:

23K Miles
CPO
Options:
Wheels Caps Colored Crest
19" Carrera Sport Wheels
Power Seat Package
Bose High End Stereo

Am I missing any must have options? Read a bunch of posts/threads on Sport Chrono and seems not to be a must have, but a nice option. Edit, just realized the car does not have Nav. This is a must for me. Dealer advised it can be added.

Asking $58,900 (but can get at least 2K off the deal based on a phone call, maybe more if I show up)

I was initially looking for a 4S and was wondering thoughts on the S v. 4S (other than the obvious). The extra 44mm with is REALLY nice on the 4 body. Driving dynamics, weight, etc.

Unless I missed something in my search, a 2006 will do the trick as no real changes in 2007 or 2008.

Not in a big rush as I currently have an M5 but looking to get back into HPDE and thought a 911 would be a great fit.

My apologies for the "thoughts on price" post but I thought this was a decent deal and wanted a little feedback.

The Sport Chrono option debate-able but most do prefer it. I don't particularly care for the overly sensitive throttle calibration with it on, but then it does loosen the reigns a bit on the stability control if you'd prefer during your HPDE. The timer/functions IMO are neat as well, and I personally prefer the little 'wart' on the dash.

As for Nav, I suppose that's personal. The radio layout looks the same regardless and I'd just as soon slap my Nuvi on the windshield if I ever needed it. Although my car is strictly for pleasure and I'm not doing much traveling in unknown areas.

2006 was the pick of years for myself. Less chance of IMS issues over the 05's but without the additional cost of the 07-08's.

As for price, well IMO that car is far too high. (I'm asking $55k for my car) It is a very lightly optioned car, and while CPO'd, there's really nothing special about it. Individual tastes vary though so it really depends on what YOU'RE looking for. I had a specific criteria in mind and eventually found it. There's a decent amount of cars available and the broader your parameters, the more options you have.

Find a car you HAVE to have, don't settle on the first available. (not that that's the case here)

cost 4K to add nav....you might want to keep looking.

Sports chrono a must have for PDK...not so with tip or 6 speed...IMO

I think with CPO price is fair starting point...


You should be able to get it for around 53-55K without nav.

Depending on where you live, you should be able to negotiate a deal for any number of CPO 4S (coupe) with better options at that price point.

Still too high at $56,900, doesn't seem too special to me. Probably start at high 40's and work your way up.

I find that you can just plug the NUVI into the power supply and toss it on the seat next to you... Works just fine without hanging it from the windshield. Plus it stays dry and the wipers don't knock it off all the time.:rolleyes:

Generally Speaking in the West Coast:

Private party non CPO:
$43K - $45K for 2005 C2S
Add $3K for 2006 (one year difference).

Dealer CPO add $8K - $10K to C2S

Try and work price close to PP non CPO with the dealer and you will be good. But expect CPO to add approx $2500 not including the additional mark up from the dealer because they can play the game and sit on the car for a bit.

There is just nothing that thrills me with the car. Whether it's the price or the options it's just isn't what I would choose . I would want sport chrono and even if I didn't want it I would want the car to have it because when I'd go to sell it someone else might want it. The lack of Nav is not an issue for me but it's just one more thing not on the car . also not thrilled on the wheels. .

CPO and miles sound ok. In fact i peeked at listings of that region .. I think I found the car. It's a tough region but the good part is that i recall reading a post here somewhere where a guy found two identical cars and he got the better price at the dealership you are shopping at. Except his was a new car so used car sales might not known.

I probably would open up what I think on price but I haven't given it much thought yet because there's something about that car that turned me off .
I just can't stand the dark tinted windows !!!! blech !!!!
That car is bone stock in every sense --even with amber side markers --to qualify it for CPO yet they left those windows like that ?

Now if this car was located in the sunny hear soaked regions I might be a little more flexible but in the overcast freezing setting of the Northeast .. it switches attention to who would do this to the car and why ? I never got past looking atn the windows but if you love the car .. I'll ponder the pricing a bit.

Have you requested inspection info and Dme results?
What is it about that specific car that you like ?

Same color combo but a better deal if you can swallow the out of state issue. 17 hrs by google maps to NJ and 10k less + chrono and nav.

48K...no matter what the useless report says...that car has some issues.

SC is not a necessary option in a 6 speed. Many buyers find the wart in the dash ugly.

Even guys that track their cars dont find it a must have.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree (now) that I can certainly do better than this car. Not specifically price, although I do think the price is too high for a 2006, but options as well. I am new to 911's and when I first posted, I ASSumed that NAV was standard and it wasn't until after my post that I realized it didn't have NAV. I also would want Sport Chrono as I am the type of person that will not be happy unless I have the "goodies".

I live in the NY/NJ area and the prices seem to be pretty high here. I would like to stay under 60K and would prefer a 4S with under 25K miles. Is this realistic? Also I am willing to travel but the Porsche website only allows 500 mile search.... why is that? I guess I can keep putting in zip codes across the country.... too much effort.

So far, I called a couple dealers and 2 didn't even return the call. I would love to buy private from a board member, but I have 2 problems. First I have a trade and don't want to deal with tire kickers (and want the tax savings) and 2 want to take advantage of the 1.9% CPO.

Last night I tinked with the auto trader . I searched "any distrance " and put the price from 57 -61K .
A few cars popped up that looked pretty good at these prices . I did find an 09 base car with low miles BTW as well as an 07 with all the goodies . Both dealerships had other cars listed too.
Lots of cars to choose from . There was one nice 4S (click on back to results to see the list ) but i only gave attention to low mile authorized dealership cars .
