Wheel Spacer Question

2011 Targa 4S with Carrera Sport wheels. Can 5mm spacers be added or is 11.5 rear using long bolts already due to extra width? Anyone done this and if so, how does it look and do tires stick out to far? Thanks.

first, 5mm is almost nothing. You should measure the bolts and see what thread will be usable if you deduct 5mm of the length.
2nd, I dont think its worth much to get 5mm, not the cost of the spacers and lugs.

I have 5mm spacers with factory Turbo wheels that are 11". Almost no change but does look a bit better. Could use some more actually....With 11.5 wheels it may be just right with 5mm spacers since you get an extra 0.25 inches. I have the PASM Sport Suspension which is lowered and additional 10mm beyond the 10mm in the Standard C4S and have not had any problems. Many on this forum are much more agressive with spacers and wheels with not problems. You should do it and you shouldn't have any problems.

I assume your Targa, if like mine, already has larger spacers on the rears. If you want more, I'd replace them with larger spacers. When I had my Targa I had Champion 11.5" wheels with 62 mm offset (rather than stock 67mm) and I installed 17mm spacers. It gave me a perfect offset IMO.

Here is what I am running now:

Front - Rims: 8.5 x 19 55mm offset - Tires: 235/35 ZR19
Rear - Rims: 11.5 x 19 50mm offset - Tires: 305/30 ZR19

Siince you already have widebody wheels on the car, it won't have the factory spacers like mine did (mine had NB Carrera Sport wheels). Sounds like you don't need (or can't handle) much more wheel protrusion, so would agree that 5mm may be sufficient to meet your goal if you want a little more. I can't advise on any impact on required bolt length, but would assume you may need longer bolts.
Here is how mine looked.

If you are adding the 5 mm spacers....you need to get bolts that are longer otherwise you could risk losing your wheels. There is a great thread that talks about this and bolt lengths. I would read this:

Have the long bolts and spacers new in box from Suncoast. Thanks.

Spacers require you use longer bolts - the width of the wheel doesn't.

It's always a good idea to check the number of turns of engagement of your wheel bolts/lug nuts. I consider 7 to be a minimum on my car. All wheels do not necessarily have the same pad height. Pad height being the distance from the wheel face to the bottom of the bolt/lug nut hole. When adding spacers I wouldn't want to get caught in stacking errors.

Front and rear bolts on my Targa 4S were the short version, so I was able to safely add the 5mm spacers using the long bolts. Although not a big difference certainly noticeable. Tire is flush with fender and I am happy with results. If I lowered the car it would look similar to GT3 in terms of how the tire sits relative to the fender. Raining but obligatory picture. Thanks to all respondents.

Looks real nice....like the 10spoke wheels as well. The 11.5s give you another .25 inches I don't get with my 11 inchers.

Hello 72offsuit - I'm trying to send you a pm regarding your spacers, but can't as I don't have sufficient posts!

Have you had any problems with wheelarch contact under VERY hard cornering (i.e. track use),, and have Porsche passed any comments on the use of spacers?

Thanks.

Porsche sells the 5mm spacers and lug bolts so I don't think they are worried about the use.

Fair point, however whilst they list 5mm spacers as 'optional' with 8" and 11" diameter wheels in the Tequipment brochure they do not say this for the 8.5" and 11.5".

...having said that, they don't say you cant either!
