Paint 996 hardtop for 997 use- Bad idea?

I've got an Arctic Silver 996 cab with hardtop (that I rarely used as the 911 was my 2nd car). Thinking of going into a 997 for a daily driver for a few years until the 991 has a year or two under it's belt. Want to pick-up a 997 cab, just not sure of color yet. Would it be a bad idea for any reason to have my current hard top painted to match whatever color car I end up buying? Can't think of any reasons, but I'm admittedly a little foggy when I've got a new Porsche on the mind.

Thanks in advance!

I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't accept for the fact that you state that you rarely used it. Why have it painted if you're not going to use it any more on the new car than the old ?

Don't 996 and 997 body differ? Would the same top work?

I use a 996 hard top on my 997. All I had to do was add the correct style receiving locks to the car. If you do a search there several posts on the subject.

Didn't use it much with the 996 as it never really was my daily driver. I did use it as a DD for about 18-months and used the hardtop all winter then. Big difference. Since, though, it's basically just taken up space as the Porsche has been relegated to weekend and "sunny days" duty. Now that my kids are both out of rear-facing car seats, I want to move back to a 911 for my single, everyday car. Figure that it won't be a bad thing to have the hardtop for Dec.-February when the top would rarely, if ever, come down anyways.

I have a 997.1 C4 Cab in midnight blue metallic that I use every day. I found the part numbers and discussion on this board and retro fit for a 996 top.. The midnight blues of the 996/997 differ so I found the best deal I could on a used 996 top and had it painted. Used it all winter - no issues.

Will the interior match? Do you care? I have tan but found a top with black lining and was satisfied as that is the color of soft top liner.
