For how long time did you search for your dream?
For how long time did you search for your dream?
Hi Guys,
This will be my first post here and I am so happy to have found this library of information. It has helped me allot in my searching for my first CS or perhaps it have stopped me… let me explain… =)
I live in UAE and have searched for the last 3 moths to get a CS. Boys there are allot of them here but I start to loose my nerves and patient. Okay I have dreamt of this car since I was 6 years so now when I am just over 30 perhaps I can wait some more months…
But really most of the cars down here in UAE are white with Red interior. I do not know if like the red interior. There are also so many Blue and Red cars with the Sand Beige color....
I would like to find a Black, Silver, or Grey car with black or grey interior. I am sure that these cars are more common in the US and Europe since here in UAE I think the taste is a bit different….
So how have you considered when picking your dream car… I am unfortunately not in the seat where I can buy a brand new but how much should I search… is it worth to wait for the right color combo? Of course this is a subjective questions but I would like to get your thoughts around buying second hand and not getting exactly what you want…
Then I also would like to have the following options…
Sport Seats
Sport Exhaust
BOSE premium sound
PDK
Sun roof
Full leather interior
Sports Crono
……….. no there is no cars left on the market…

I searched for three months each time I bought one, and like you, I bought used. First, set a budget and then make the determination on the options/colors you want. It will take time, but make sure you search high and low for the right car. In the end, you will probably have to make some compromises, but you will get close.
Good luck with it. The searching can half the fun.

I'll repeat what my wife told me over the past 18+ months (that's how long it took me to find mine) up until 2 weeks ago.
"Get what you want, don't settle on your dream."
I would show her all the listings I'd find - even flew out and come back nit-picking on option option the car had/didn't have...ponder making offers, etc...
Her advice was sound (I can see it now that I have my dream) as I have the car of my dreams (993 4S) - with no regrets what so ever.
Patience is key. These are beautiful and expensive cars. You don't want to drop a penny without being 100% satisfied.
Best of luck on the search. Like ScooterP said, it is a part of the fun.

First phone call......I did an impulse buy and have had NO regrets doing it!
Only thing I regret is joining this forum and meeting so many GREAT people!
So you ask WHY I regret that....Well,because I spend too much time here and have NO life,LOL!
BUT seriously options were not too much of an issue for me.....
I wanted a cabriolet and an S....everything else was a bonus!
GOOD-LUCK with your hunt!

You need to determine what is important to you and prioritize. To me it went something like this:
Price (=< $70K), Model (997S), CPO (Yr '07+), Miles (<20K), Options (6-speed, Sport Chrono). Everything else that followed wasn't as important as the former criteria.
I looked online for 6 months before I knew I would be ready. Once I was ready I did not find anything online. I almost gave up on the idea of a Carrera. It wasn't until I was passing my local Porsche dealer and noticed my future car. After negotiating the price down to by $7K I ended up buying it. I think I got everything I ever wanted out of my first 997S.
I think that you should get the car that meets your primary criteria, you will not like it any less once it becomes yours because of minor things. Just make sure your primary criteria are met, and that find may take months or just one day.

Less than one day
Two years ago, I decided exactly what car I wanted: 997 C4 cab, midnight blue or guards red with black interior, black top, sport chrono, full leather, Bose. Good luck with that, right? A friend strongly recommended one of the local dealerships, where he'd purchased several P-cars. I went online, and they had the precise car, just as if I'd ordered it, as a CPO with 1004 miles on the odometer, on deep sale. Sold!

Since I live on a small island in the middle of the Pacific, I did not have the benefit of a large inventory to choose from. I was well on my way to custom ordering a C2S but was too inpatient to wait 6 mos for delivery. I started checking out dealerships on the West Coast and found a 5 month old, 2xxx mile c2S optioned out for 15K beneath sticker. The dealership included free shipping too so that was another $1K bonus. I originally wanted midnight blue and Sports Design rims but have come to love meteor grey (very low maintenance) and the Classic rims are also easy to clean.

I looked for about 6 months. Funny thing is, I purchased a car that I found very early in the search but kept on looking. I just kept coming back to the guards red. It was not what I was originally looking for, but it had me at the first test drive.
About two years on & off searching. Wanted white but not black interior at all. Thoughts of saddle or cocoa, but the red leather really caught my eye! Funny isn't it? It was the first I'd seen with that combination, and now I find out they are so common there!
I have wanted one of these since I first rode in one at 16 years old. Hmmm... Getting close to 40 years ago. I say make a list of what you consider to be non negotiable options and then wait for it!

I wanted a 2009-10 C2S with only one color, Carrera White, and a list of 'Must Have" options.
I started looking in December 2010 and worked hard every day to find the car, distance was no limit.
I found the car at the end of April at a Porsche dealership; asked for their bottom line, and did the deal in five minutes.
Car was right color, has Nav, and everthing else I wanted.
Car is 2010 C2S, had 2,300 mile on it and I could have bought it CPO's if I desired.
Passed on the CPO, car is perfect and I am way happy.
I also got a great deal.

10 seconds.
5yrs ago when i brought my friend (who knew very little about sports cars, but whose rich dad literally gave him a blank check...ugh) to a dealer, they were so appreciative they offered me 12% off sticker for a nicely equipped 06S on the lot. i was not looking for a new car, much less had i ever considered the possibility of being able to afford a porsche. like i say, it took me 10 seconds to decide.
