Filler Flap Doesn't Stay Open
My filler flap seems to have lost a counter weight or something as now it will no longer stay up when I open it. It seems to have happend when I closed the filler flap as it had a slight resistance. All pieces seem to be there...

Is it supposed to stay open? I don't think mine has stayed open since I've had the car, although I didn't buy it new...
If it is, I'm interested in the fix also. Thx |
are you talking about the gas fill flap?

I just had some work done on my car and when it was returned, my fuel filler door won't stay open either. Going to the dealer tuesday to have it fixed (along with a few other things). It appears as though there's a spring missing, but I'm going to take a look at other 911s on the showroom floor. Will update once I get a clue as to what the problem is.

theres a flat metal spring that puts the tension on it. It is not strong but enough to make it colse and swing open. if its just floppy you can replace the spring

Everyhting is fine except it's now floppy...

Sometimes the spring in the flap pops loose or breaks. Part #997 504 711 00. My spring came loose in early 2006 & I snapped it back into place. It's been good ever since.

+1 Dealer fixed mine under warranty. Seems to be a common problem.

Interesting. Mine has been making a relatively loud noise when I lock the car. I've been thinking that's the first sign of trouble. Maybe a misalignment...

The spring is #6 |
I had the same problem - but it was not the metal spring causing my issue. My problem was related to the plastic hinge that mounts the filler flap door to the body (part #5 in the above diagram). The metal spring rests on a very tiny ledge on the backside of that mount and it finally cracked and gave way. It was a $14 part at the dealer. They had them in stock as it is apparently a known issue with this part. The replacement they provided me appeared to be a little beefier in design. Took me about 4 minutes to install.

Going to attempt to fix this during the weekend! I think it might be #6 for me...
