Can't put car in gear
Happened out of the blue.. .. Start the car fine w/ the clutch depressed but cannot put the car in gear unless the engine is off? What's the problem? Is it the master cyclinder?
|
my bet is on the pressure plate finger. happened to me HERE. i was hoping it was the slave cylinder, but nope. i researched a bit and it's not an "unheard of" issue and just a fluke i guess (like the infamous IMS/RMS issues, etc etc!!).
oh well, good luck. |
i wonder woudl it be consider a warranty repair?
|
possible, as it seems to me that it is more of a manufac defect rather than user wear and tear.
|
agreed.. i would understand if it's the clutch but reading around and my basic understanding of clutch, I doubt this is the clutch. And if they try to BS me, all hell is going to break lose, in a nice way of course. I had 1 clutch go on me but that was on a car with 200,000KM and the symtoms are totally different

how much is typically a clutch and flywheel ?
|
Happened to me and turned out it was the clutch. The test is if it can go into gear when the engine is off it's the clutch. Close to $4k with the flywheel. If only the clutch about $2k
|
yup absolutely right.. got quoted 4K if it's flywheel as well.

problem is the car is in London ontario .. i had it towed there free cuz of my warranty..

So i have had the issue since the last couple of days.
I told the dealer that it is a slave cylinder issue. They came back saying that the car needs a new clutch and possibly flywheel. I just got a call that they can salvage the flywheel but needs a new clutch and a slave cylinder. I suspect that the car needs only a slave cylinder and they are screwing me over with a new clutch. Upon my asking they said that the friction plate went bad. I am going to make a surprise pop-over and demand to see the broken parts. What should i be looking for on a bad friction plate? |
