2009 Pricing Question - Some opinions wanted

Long time lurker around here. I'm looking to add a 997.2 C2 to the stable (would be my first Porsche) and found a low option car that is very close to what I'm looking for. Any thoughts as to pricing on this one? The online pricing services seem to be all over the map, as in a 15k+ spread between them.

I'm in SoCal

Details
CPO car, dealer offered with ext PA CPO warranty
2009 White / Black C2
15k miles
6 speed
Chrono pack
Bluetooth
Power seats
XM Radio
Tires look new, interior new, car is very minty, has had 2yr service, brake bleed, oil, etc.
Socal car, bought in LA, traded in LA
Bought 6/2009, 1 owner, Sold in 9/2011
It's a low-option car and has been on lot for nearly 2 months

Car is offered for 69k, I think a fairer price is closer to 62k on it. I'd pay cash, no trades. Dealer won't make any $ on me with financing or a trade.

Thoughts?

I would say around 64K would be a good price. 62K an excellent price.

Be prepared to hear you should hold out for an "S"...

If I was you I get to dealer and negotiate face to face with your check book sitting on the desk. I'd be shocked if you paid less then $63k or more then $66k. But you're in charge of the deal not the dealer. Of course get a over rev. report but the 100k warranty is worth about $3500.

As you describe it, and of course subject to a PPI despite the CPO, this comes across as a very nice example. A very good car to own if the price is right. Not a garage queen, but still low mileage, and of course our SoCal climate is easy on cars unless they sleep outdoors in the beach fog.

My 997.2S would rate the same realistically, and my reaction to the current market is that I would expect to pay around $70 if I bought it today as it stands in the garage. Probably $75 if it were loaded with options, but it isn't really. As high as $85k for an S Cab that started with $30k in options like PDK and everything leather down to the vent blades. But this isn't that sort of car. It's just a "very good S to own", and the car you're looking at sounds the same.

Besides the engine, the S comes with PASM and little features that add up to $10k when both cars are new. The cars are not three years old, but they are three model years 'old', so I'd say the differential is down to $5k since the one you're considering comes with a CPO while mine has only the original warranty left to run, and mine has 29,000 miles while that example has half as many miles.

So I'd expect to pay $65k for that example less whatever my heart says about the other features. If I were dependent on a nav system (which I'm not personally), I'd knock off another kay for that being missing. If I really wanted the PASM (and personally I do want this option a lot), then I'd knock off at least two kay for that one as well. Maybe even three unless the car's appearance and general 'presence' really stole my heart. In other words, with the right buyer, the one who doesn't care about those big-ticket items, this is a $65k car. If you yearn for either one, don't go higher than $63k.

I suspect its been sitting for two months because they're waiting for a buyer who isn't heartbroken about those two items. So you might start at $62, let yourself offer $63 fairly quickly, but act very depressed about the lack of <pick your option, I'd say PASM> and use that reluctance they'll understand to make anything over $64k sound unreasonable. You might have to pay $65k ,or you might just make them feel content that they finally shifted this two-month inventory 'unit' for $64k. You wouldn't have to feel bad at $65k, which in SoCal will get you out the door at around $72,000.

You didn't mention which dealer has this on the lot, and that makes a difference that's tougher to assess. Beverly Hills expects to net more per unit (and they need it) so they tend to keep only the cream puffs around and send the other trades they get off to the auctions. Ditto, Auto Gallery. (And Vasek Polak I suspect, though I haven't visited them.) On the other hand, cream puff or not, those dealers all move a lot of high-end units. Very high end. Even to an coldly objective sales manager, the argument about "it doesn't even have nav or PASM" strikes a chord. Secretly, he feels that way too after moving cars at prices like $150k day in and day out and maybe just this morning he moved a Speedster at $225k. We're all human.

My personal approach, and you don't want financing or a trade any more than I do, is to talk about "out the door" from our first conversation. If the sticker says they want $68k for example, my initial lowball would be that amount -- but out the door, with all fees and taxes and license. (You won't get that of course.) Then I'd be happy and act ready to sign at $70k out the door and let myself be talked into as much as $71k. Maybe. Again, that depends on how you feel about those missing features. When all the talking is done, it's going to be your car, not a transaction on the monthly roster like it is for the guys on the other side of the table. Make sure you're negotiating for a car you want to love. And then don't worry a whole lot about a couple of thousand either way.

For a little help on what dealers are doing in the Mid West I have been looking at a GTS. I can get $11k off sticker withe dealer throwing in free service for the first 3 years. The trade on my 09 C2S with 23k miles and very similar options is $65k, equivilant to $69k with the tax break. I didn't pay much more than that a year ago.

So, yes the market seems to be up a bit. For the C2 you are looking at $64k from a dealer doesn't sound too far off the mark.

I would say 64-65K sounds reasonable.

Got it

I ended up in the upper range of the suggestions here + they are putting in the oem ipod/usb/aux audio interface. In the end the lack of drama on this car (1 warranty claim for HPFP, super clean service records, SoCal car, brakes are 80%, all 4 tires are new, pulled DME no issues, 15k in 2.5 years, in service of 6/2009) I decided it was worth a slight premium.

After many 'other' high end german cars (2 of which are in my garage now) I cannot believe I waited this long.

I know, worthless w/o pics. Its raining here in LA... soon.

Congratulations! You'll love it.

And yes, it is raining here. I'm going to have to wear a sweater to play golf. Damn.

We are so spoiled here in SoCal.

It's a good day to hard wire my V1 into the new car!
