997.1 LED tail light upgrade w/o changing bumper
I am thinking about upgrading the LED tail lights on my 2007 997 C2S. I have a few questions:
1) Where and what should I buy?
2) Are there plug and play models available with instructions for a consumer?
3) What about error codes?
4) Does the rear fog light continue to work? The videos online do not indicate that.
5) What combination is the brightest? smoke/clear/red
Thanks,
DS997C2S

Do a search on Dectane and Rottec LED taillights. You will have all the answers to your questions. I have the Dectane ones. No error msg thus far. Fog light works w/o problem thus far. A true plug and play for me.

Dectane: http://www.cargym.com/porsche-997-91...ht-p-2387.html
Dectanes are not "DOT" approved, should I care? Rottecs have required register upgrades?
One on left seems to be RotTec and right Dectane. 808c2s, Gotnem108 and ramhawaii could you confirm?

no offense intended, but after having seen these LED type "upgrade" lights on various 90s 3-series and yukons that we share the roads with... i just can't get myself to do it to a porsche 911 no matter how clean they may seem to look. it's a bit tacky imho.
search 'Dectane' / ' RotTec' .. and there are huge threads with all the info and the pics u need.
oh WTH..

I have to agree a little. While I really like the look of my RotTec tail lights, both illuminated and non-illuminated, it seems to me that LED lights have lost some of their allure given how many cars have now adopted them, in every price strata. I see that BMW has announced it will soon implement laser headlights, which are apparently twice as efficient as LED headlights. Heck, we've barely even seen LED headlights yet (Audi A8?), and yet they may be a thing of the past in another few years.
I'm not sure how LEDs for the tail lights are a thing of the past... it is the thing of the NOW given how efficient and fast they are at signaling. All major car manufacturers are using them and I do not see them switching over to laser technology for tail lights any time soon.
I mean how can you even argue this if all Porsche tail lights on the latest models are LEDs? Yes, some aftermarket alternatives are very poorly executed, but this shouldn't be a reason to dismiss the technology all together. Do you really hate how the 997.2 tails look? If so, then you are definitely in the minority.

I agree, I doubt that other technologies like laser will be implemented quickly or as broadly.
Bottom line, I was just venting. As I said, and at the risk of appearing to contradict myself, I really like my LED tail lights, and have purchased LED bulbs for my front (and rear) fog lights in order to give a whiter light. I also have the module that I'll install this weekend to allow the front LED fogs to function as DRL's.
No worries, I am in agreement with what you are saying.
That is the reason why many of us have chosen Dectane, and I think that if you were to see them in person, and how OE they look, I do not think you would be bothered by them being aftermarket. They are quite low key, yet perform spectacular.

Actually, I'm not dismissing the LED technology, but I can see how my comments might have been construed that way. Maybe my complaint is that LED's were introduced on higher end cars, and so initially had a uniqueness about them that I liked in addition to their faster response time). But now, everybody has implemented them, sometimes in somewhat tacky ways which to me reduces the appeal on those cars.

i highly believe that the 2003 G35 was the reason all production cars now have LED in the rear. it wasn't a thing of "higher end cars" as a base 3 series had LED on the 04+(05?) models, and a 2004 911 had no LED.
