all this low mile cars will not help the threat to find the highest number.

It should be, post if you have more miles than the user above.

Made it to 158.5k a few months ago but bore scoring killed the engine! Been looking for a used engine and shopping the car as a parts/rebuild. It's very sad - I love this car but it doesn't seem worth the expense of installing an expensive rebuilt engine as this stage of the game. Very sad as I walk by it each morning.

Wow I am sorry! That's horrible!!! What year and model is yours? What causes bore scoring??

Other's here with true mechanical knowledge will know more about the cause. My understanding is that it is not uncommon in the M97 engine Solved the IMS problem but have this instead. It is also my understanding that it can occur a lot sooner than it happened to me but with the benefit of hindsight, I suspect it had been brewing for a while given the oil consumption.

My car is a 2008 C4 Cab that was bought new in 2009 and used as a daily driver ever since. Winter wheels and hardtop added early on so it was used year round for a 80 mile RT commute. I had some awesome runs drifting in in some monster snow storms. In fact, I was hoping to retire it in a couple of years form daily service and turn it it to a rally car just for the fun of using it in the snow.

When new, I burned quite a bit of oil until I hit around 10-12k miles and then it settled down to a quart or so for each 10k. Once I went over 100k, oil consumption started going back up but well within specs. But once I got into the 140s it was a quart per 2k and then, just before I diagnosed the scoring (scoped by 2 mechanics) I was using a quart every few hundred miles.

I don't understand why this is still a misconception. The IMS problem was not resolved until the IMS bearing was eliminated altogether with the DFI engine introduced with the -09 cars. There are a number of documented IMS failures on -06, -07 and -08 cars on Rennlist. Owners of these cars posting on that forum probably represent a small fraction of the total ownership of those model year cars so one has to assume there are many other failures. Still rare to be sure but I don't think it serves anyone's purpose to say that the IMS issue was "solved" until the bearing itself was eliminated with the new engine. It was improved over the years but was never fail proof.

I'm at 183K now on my "06" C2S, 2nd owner and only one motor. Still running strong and I'm driving it everyday. Knock on wood:)

I totally agree, after reading bad things all the time, it really makes me wonder if I should keep the car long term... Updates like these help me a lot.
