i have no experience with radar

detectors, except for the tom tom navi telling me when a fixed camera is coming up... will a good detector system do this as well and also tip me as to the presence of the guys that are moving around? think i saw one yesterday in france , the guy was driving an audi a3, doing the speed limit and flashing (i think) people that passed him (me) at an elevated rate...enough to make you hate audis...

escort ones are supposed to give you warnings are fixed camera. I had a 9500ix and it didn't do what i should. it was quiet as a bird with no warning for days.

i got a V1 instead and disabled X band. it still has false alarms but it's at least more useful than a silent radar detector.

the best detector is escort 9500ci, which is built into your car and will jam laser and radar signals. it's about 2000-3000 installed.

then, you have escort 9500ix, escort redline, V1, Beltronic STi. all of these are top quality but it is debateable on which one is better. my advise is to get one and try it out. they all have 30 day return policy i think.

I use the Escort 9500ix and it detects photo light cameras. There is an online Database that can be used to updated your unit for the latest. It works great. It even has a feature to mark areas of false alarms so the unit learns where not to go off. I combine it with a Laser Interceptor, the best laser jammer on the market.

K40, front and rear radar detector.
Laser Diffuser on front license plate.
Just drove across the US , license to speed. Worked like a charm!

How is it driving your p-car cross country?

eldertec 01-23-2012 09:27 PM

Fantastic machine!
Started on Skyline drive/Blue ridge parkway.
Down to New Orleans then across to Los Angeles.
Awesome highway car, extremely comfortable, great gas mileage...people ask about it at every stop!!
Those Germans know how to build!!

That's great to hear! I plan on driving my 997 turbo from across the country to the us and Canadian Rockies this summer!

Escort is a laser jammer but does not jam radar frequencies. Former is legal in most states, latter is illegal everywhere.

EDIT: Just saw the OP is from Germany. Don't know the laws governing radar there, but regardless, the Escort does not jam radar signals.

I would be very careful with a K40 set up. Their lidar jammers get punch through a very long distances during almost all testing.

Have a link? I'd be curious to see it. I don't drive to crazy, that's what tracks are for.

I'd recommend the Escort 9500ci. It's a great combo of radar detector and laser shifter that also has GPS in order to filter out false alerts. Having a detector be silent, like mentioned above, is a good thing if there are no real threats around.

airmitch 01-25-2012 10:51 AM

I have the Escort 9500ci with laser shifters. In the past year and half it has saved my a$$ at least 20 times. Our local Sheriff's cars use laser, and it's given me the ability to slow down and then I turn it off, so as not to frustrate the occifer. The ability to update speed camera locations from PC is great also, but only in North America.

The key is to have someone knowledgeable do the install- there is a lot to it.

Do some searchs on the radar forums (radardector.net and radardetecorforum.org) and you will see plenty of bad results with K40. If you are looking for a good lidar jammer I would look at the LI's. They have been the best for years now and you can update the software as new guns come out. With ALL lidar jammers 90% of the results will be based on the install. A stealth install is a bad thing when it comes to lidar jammers.
