911 sales down 24% over 2011 numbers.
Lack of supply or something else?

1) (approx) 20 Percent price increase
2) Only PDK cars at the launch
3) Controversial styling and interior
4) Slight performance gains
5) Competing vehicles are selling with more performance at lower price
6) Consumers are getting wiser
In the meantime the current 997 models have actually gone up in value on the used market in that 70K-85k price range which is precisely what a Porsche 911 once cost not too long ago.

Good points all.
I am very surprised by that result.

That doesn't really surprise me. I think looking back, the 997.2 is going to be remembered as a classic 911 version. Modern tech but still raw 911 characteristics. Oh, and the engine doesn't blow up. That's good, lol.

I'll let you know when my 997.1 explodes The 997.2 is great too and I'd like to experience the NA PDK and manual one of these days - 2WD.

I love the look of the new 911 but the price increases rocked me... I could live with the 997 coupe because of the sunroof/moonroof but now it's an option at a pretty costly increase..
My 09S is a lot of car when matched against the new model.. No reason to change..

Exactly my thought, my 09 was about 100+, and in 3 a similarly equipped 991 S is 120, yay steep!

There were very few cars available on dealer lots in March.
All the other models (4, 4S, GTS, etc) are still available new - just at 997s vs 991s. Odd....but that's the way Porsche has done it in the past also.

You mean a 30% depreciation on a very well built low mileage car in 3 years is inappropriate?
Also the higher price for the 991 will also slow the depreciation of the 997.2
Another thing that is playing a role is that due to the economy in 2009 ad 2010 there fewer lease cars taken out so the used car inventory is tighter (supply -demand)
Which is not the case with years 05-08 when financing money was abundant and lease rates were low
