As others have said, the Blue Ridge is beautiful but very low speed limits. US129 (the Dragon) is a short but fun run. If you are that far south on your starting / ending point - I would highly suggest driving it even if you decide to spend the majority of your time on the Parkway.

Another great road in the area is the Cherohala Skyway (http://www.cherohala.com/) We used to drive this one on bikes when the Blue Ridge was too clogged with RVs.

No matter which road you choose, remember to keep the shiny side up and the sticky side down

I have done both. Blue Ridge good for sight seeing at reasonable speeds. Tail of the Dragon much more technical and you need to concentrate on driving as opposed to sight seeing. Best fun I have had is waiting in a pull off for a Porsche, Corvette, or pack of sport bikes to come by and then try to keep up. Some of the bikers are Gonzo. Great fun and they provide protection cop protection.

Just got on to the Blue Ridge around the Little Switerland Area and drove into Asheville. Wow that was such a beautiful road. Not that many slow pokes on it too and I the V1 kept me cognizant of the hidden speed cameras.

Wish I could take everybody in my family on that drive and especially in the Targa.

It is really nice this time of the year. Both are totally different. The trees start changing this time of the year so there will be alot of traffic even during the week.
