My trigger finger is sooooo itchy......
I'm looking at 997s for the first time now that the prices are in my wheelhouse and I need a bit of advice on proper valuation.
Looking at an 06 S cab w/46k miles, at a P dealer, CPO, 6 speed, sport exhaust, black lobster claws, excellent condition. Asking $52k. 1 owner, clean carfax, sold new and always serviced by selling dealer. What should I offer, and what is reasonable to pay? Drove it today and LOVED it. Can't go newer due to budget. Replacing a sold 01 TT (several years ago) and will be a weekend toy/occasional autocross and DE car.
Do I need S over regular Carrera? Is 6 speed the only way to go or would I be happy with a tip? Can't do PDK - too much $$ still.
Thanks!
Todd

I think that s its definitely worth extra money. Bigger stronger engine, bigger brakes, sport exhaust mare main diferences. It feels much sportier then non s. For me 6 speed was only way to go. PDK is much better then tiptronic but still I'll chose 6 speed over PDK. I tired it and didnt like it that much, matter of personal preferences. $52k is to much for a car with 46k miles.
I have an '06 "base" cab. The difference to an "S" is, I believe, 20 hp. In the greater scheme of things, more HP is good, but I am perfectly happy/satisfied with my "base"model. More HP generally impacts top speed and in the US that's a non issue. Again, if I would have found an S similarly equipped when I was car shopping, I would have probably gone for it, but (if you read the edmunds review of the 06 Cab) you are not really giving up a lot. IMHO. that said, a manual is the way to go. My every day pleasure is to row through the gear and to hear that sweet exhaust sound.
Thanks guys - I threw out an offer that was deemed "not realistic". I guess I'll see if they recalibrate their vision of reality or not. I might be persuaded to come up a bit from my number if they ask really nicely.
The shifter on the 997 is so much more precise and enjoyable than my 996s were (except for the TT w/the short shift kit). And I'm not going to lie - the sport exhaust summoned a little wood (hopefully the sales guy didn't get the wrong idea).
Argh - it's only money, right? Just pieces of paper that can be willfully exchanged for varying measures of happiness. Could be an interesting weekend yet......

And you can't take it with you when you die...

What was MSRP when new? Only way to tell how fair the deal is. For example, I was looking at an 08 with 35k mi, dealer ran the vin and generated the build sheet - msrp was 82k. I compared it to a 06, 41k mi, build sheet indicated 110k. Make a long story short I went with the 06, much nicer and better equipped, without running the build sheet the 08 made more sense. These cars are all options so you need to run the vin and look at the build sheet. If nicely equipped 52K seems like a fair deal to me.
And what are black lobster claws?

If truly pristine and a nice color combo, I give it a thumbs up!
Here is a link, black on black, MSRP $99,XXX. It is essentially perfect.

Car is nicely equipped but not over the top. No navi, some aluminum pieces, sport exhaust, sports chrono. MSRP was an even $100k. I offered $46k cash that day - no go. I said I would be interested if they were willing to work a bit and give me a price that started with a 4 - no callback yet. Car is still for sale, so you never know.
I don't need the car even 1%, so I'm fine with not getting it unless it's a great deal.
Getz - looks like a nice car, but I'm only looking for a cab with CPO. Also, I have zero need for PCCBs and I would want to shoot myself when it came time to replace them due to the cost. Plus - black isn't at the top of my list.
Black lobster claws are the OEM wheel but black centers with silver rims. Looks really good - not sure if it was an option or powdercoated after the fact.

I'll add my $.02. I agree with everyone saying the 6-speed is a must. And if you're going to track it, I'll strongly recommend an S. People downplay the difference, but for me, those big red brakes are worth every penny, and the extra HP and torque are nice even if not significant. Did I mention those BRAKES!
Personally, I'm thrilled that an '06 with 46K can command $52k. That's higher than I would expect, but maybe not out of the ballpark.
But, I paid a little too much for my car as well, because it just seemed like a good one. And it has been perfect for the past 2 years - you'll forget a few extra dollars in the long run - I did!
Good luck!
