997 Engine Removal - Any DIY's yet?

Anyone found a useful non-Porsche written DIY yet? I do have the Factory manual, but I always like to have 2+ references to learn from. I am a member of Pelican and so far, nothing there also specific to the 997 (especially for 4S).

I have dropped oil-cooled engines many many times and can't wait to be able to experience my 1st water-cooled engine drop.

BTW, once I learn how to drop this baby, I can stop worrying about my clutch. I don't mind paying the high $ for the pressure plate, clutch, bearing, etc., but I do mind having to pay a mechanic for something I could do.

Sorry, I don't have any info... but if you're closeby (SoCal) I'd be interested to watch/help. Might even be able to bring my buddy (Porsche certified mechanic, now unemployed).

I am in Agoura Hills. Should be a 45-min drive if you could do 90mph hehehe.

Porsche certified mechanic? Hmmm.... I am rebuilding my smog-exempt 74; I wonder if your buddy can rebuild engines. How much?

Here's a guy who pulled the engine in a 996 and tore the top end down. Great thread.

Yeah that's pretty close. Let me know when you drop it. I've got a bathroom remodel to handle this winter break, but I bet I can make time. I also have a great camera and can take pics too.

I'm sure he could, but I don't think that's his 'expertise' so to say. He's built a few high hp air cooled v-dubs among other things and worked more recently as a Porsche tech in Santa Barbara and Riverside. But I'd leave the engine rebuilds to someone who specializes in it.

I have seen not-so-detailed 996 engine drop articles all over various sites. They say dropping a 996 is the same as 997. Well, I don't get convinced that easily.

I understand that our cars are relatively new; thus, it might take a while before anyone does a pic-by-pic DIY of a 997-engine drop. You guys are a bunch of silver-spoon-fed spoiled brats!!!!
