I looked to see if there was an existing thread and didn't see one - just the same - please post a picture and note what you're using. I'm going to nudge my rear down just a tad:

Same here. I had mine installed at a Porsche dealership and they set my ride height which has I guess a slope with the rear slightly higher. After the first of the year I'm going to have it reset at square with the front and realigned and corner balanced.

Yup, i even told the mechanic i want GT3 Specs, which means the rear should have been lower- but he didn't listen i guess!

I am gonna have to get it lowered again & Aligned...i was told by a few people corner balance is only if you goto the track..is this true?

Corner balancing is for coil over suspensions. It's adjusting each corner's ride height to balance the weight footprint. It's more accurate than what you can do with your eye.

How are you planning to adjust each corner's ride height with fixed height lowering springs??

Btw, if I were to lower with simple lowering springs, I'd get the RUF progressive springs. 1" drop. Anything more is just additional risk of body damage if you were to hit a pothole. My thoughts are the RUF springs still keep ride quality mostly intact and still allow some suspension travel so as not to bottom the shocks over sharp irregularities.

Most, if not all springs (unless on coil overs) are progressive versus linear, whereas the latter is preferable for tracking. My H&R, like KW and PSS10 (or 9) are progressive, although they make linear - would NOT use the latter for mostly street.

I'm running H&R coil overs, not just H&R springs. My car was aligned and corner balanced as I do a few track days per year with the PCA, and also canyon runs.

I think your recommendations regarding the drop is wise and one should factor in the conditions of the roads in the area. Generally, the area around northern San Antonio (lower base of canyons) where I live is pretty good, but on a late night in a low lighted area I hit a pot hole and it sounded god awful. It only slightly nicked the edge of my wheel, but the next morning I noticed this damage:

New bumper required, left-side radiator, supporting bracket, and lower trim. I did get a new bumper out of it - still, I'm not going to raise it - love the height and just need to be more vigilant.

BTW, I doubt RUF manufactures their own springs and are likely an Eibach or H&R variant.

I'm sure, but they would be to their design specifications as opposed to just something off someone else's shelf. RUF puts great thought into their applications, which are Porsche only, unlike H&R and Eibach who apply single solutions to multiple applications. Therefore, not engineered per application.

KW is the only German dedicated suspension company I trust as they do engineer and extensively test to each application. I've had KW coil overs in the past, as well as just KW springs, and they are top quality. I found the springs a bit harsh and the adjustable damping coil overs perfection. These were purchases when I lived in Germany and KW was always very gracious to interact with their customers.

Agreed on RUF warranting status to have just about anything built to their specs. I used to run an ASA blower on my E46 M3 and I leaned they had some built to their specs.

With respect to KW coil overs, I used to run them too on my M3 and wanted them for the 911, but they were so much more than what I paid on the ///M (over 1K) so I opted for the H&R coil overs. So far I'm very pleased with them.

Car is under load in the below shot, ride height is at GT3 spec. Was fun watching the 911 work its suspension that day.

I had misread your input as to corner balancing your car. I thought you just had H&R springs as opposed to their coil overs. Hence my confusion.

Part of my decision to purchase KW coil overs while in Germany was because of their anti corrosive coating. Germany salts the roads in winter, and H&R coil overs like most others don't respond well to salt. KW also sets up their damping for both high and low frequency bumps, which most don't as well. They totally transformed my Z4M Coupe. BMW Ms are always setup too harsh. After the switch my car was more compliant over road irregularities and way more planted in aggressive corners. I love KW. Although I believe the only coil over which works with my PASM is the Bilstein B16 DampTronic. I could live with that ;)

gonz996 Dec 22, 2012 08:47 PM

Yeah, no salt or much of any winter in San Antonio and the H&Rs surprised me at how good they are although there's no damper adjustment; i was skeptical but didn't want to spend $3k for KW since i paid $2k for the same on the ///M.I moved from the St. Paul, MN where I lived for 16 years (loved it and hope to move back) and they salt like crazy and my KWs did very well there.
