jmh05scab,

I bought my 997 without ever having test driven a 911. I just knew I would love it. I had a BMW 545 previously (still have it) but I found the 911 to be everything I wanted and more. I did get to drive an E92 M3 back to back with my C4 - one of my friends and I had some fun time on the back roads. The M3 is still a very solid car, I would find it difficult to discern if one was faster than the other just based on the drive. However, the M3 was definitely quieter and less connected to the road than my 911. Granted, the 911 has a lot more road noise, but after I Gundo hacked the exhaust, I just love the whole package even more. Since you don't have PSE, look up Gundo hack on this forum!

545 still gets family duty and the nod for long trips. Otherwise, I DD my 911 as much as I can.

I know you'll have a blast when you get your car.

Cheers!
Ron

I've looked at the Gundo hack threads, sounds like something I'd be interested in, and I think I know a few shops close to me that would/could do it. Thanks!

won't be here 'til Friday at the earliest...possibly as late as Sunday. My guess is the truck isn't back in NY just yet, probably arriving today to drop off the m3. Then tomorrow or Friday it will pick up the Porsche, plus a couple of others before heading back down the coast to me in NC and then on to FL.

jmh I also traded my E46 M3 ('05 Cab w/ 6 speed) and as much as I loved the M3, the 997 is a different animal (this is my first Porsche). It is quicker in the mid range than the M3, feels much lighter on its feet and if the M3 was fun (it was) the 997 is way more fun. You will find yourself looking for reasons to go out and drive. The other difference is the exhaust. The M3 was so so in my opinion but the 997 particularly with the top down is intoxicating. You will love it!!!

The next thing you need to do is to join the Porsche Club of America (PCA). The chapters have a lot of activities. If you are on the Charlotte side of the state, then its the Carolinas chapter. If you are on the Raleigh side it is the Hurricane chapter. I belong to the Hurricane chapter and there are lots of activities: drives, tech events, track events, etc. I would say that on a regular basis 40 to 50 people show up at the events. Great way to make new friends!

thanks Jasper1, I've looked into PCA in my area....looks like they meet some in Clemmons...I'm in the Elon College area but work in Chapel Hill...might be joining up in the spring/summer, but I also have two kids who are keeping me pretty busy! (I may still find some extra time for this though)

just got a message with a pic of the car...it's all ready to ship!
GREAT choice! Here is a picture of mine if you'd like some ideas.

your is just as pretty . Glad you are getting stoked, adds to the enjoyment and brotherhood of owning a top notch car. I really do like your color better than mine. Looks good with the dark top.

Gracias. You will LOVE the car. I came from an e39 M5 (loved that car) and prior to that owned an M3. Both great cars but just a different experience driving the 911. Not sure how much of it is my brain versus the performance of the actual car but while I will always love the M5, when I get in the 911, regret is not one of the emotions I experience.

Congratulations! Great choice!

I had an E39 M5 and 997.1 for several months until I came to the conclusion that I need to give up the M5. Both were my dream cars and I thought I was going to miss the M5. No regrets at all, 911 always put a smile on my face.

I recently stopped by my local BMW dealer to look at a new F10 M5, just curious. I have a soft spot for M5's.

The salesman said "it's a BMW, the ultimate driving machine"
My response: I drive a "There's no substitute!"
We both chuckled. LOL
