Is a Valentine V1 worth it?
Arrows= Better. As everyone has said, its most certainly worth it. I've had V1s for over 14 years, and I'm still amazed at the simplicity of the product and its effectiveness. Laser is becoming more and more common in my areas in TN & GA...
The annunciator lights for mine is in the rear view mirror with the on/off, sensitivity, and volume control **** installed just below the E-brake handle. Came with the car, and has worked flawlessly so far.
I like my V1, but find that increasingly I'm getting false alarms from some of the cars out there that have lane detection systems. The V1 goes berserk around them.
Interesting. I never considered this as a source for false alerts. Mine goes off around grocery stores with automatic doors.
I love my v1; however, for the first few months the false alarms were extremely annoying. Look on their website and it will show you how to turn off x band. I also have k band muted until it gets strong. After doing this I still get a lot of false alarms, but its not nearly as bad as it used to be.
Also, get the g bracket, it's awesome! V1 looks factory.

Have to agree. My V1 has saved me numerous times. It does tend to be very sensitive. And Audis, BMW 7 series and certain MBs with the lane departure warnings are very annoying (side bar, if you can't keep you car in your lane maybe you should not be driving at all
).
Use of laser is intermittent near where I usually travel. Although I recently ran into a situation where a trooper was "sampling" traffic with his radar and using laser to target the "offenders". My V1 detected the radar (I was having a spirited drive with another 997) and eased off the gas (was exiting in a half mile as it was). Sure enoough the trooper was at the exit and he "beamed" me with the laser. Now I usually take this exit at around 70. But because I had forwarning, I was at 53 mph when he got me with the laser.

Once you have the arrows, no other detector will do.
The only defense against laser is a shifter/jammer set-up. Unfortunately they are starting to be outlawed across the country. I had shifters on multiple vehicles, but they were outlawed in Texas as 2011 - fine if your caught with them. Generally the motorcycle cops here that use laser. Majority still use radar and the V1 has saved me too many times to count.
Be safe.

Not a very goof 1st impression!
Installed it real quick this am and drive with it to work. Of course I didn't bother to read the manual.
The thing came off the suction cup a couple of times. I was in a hurry so maybe I did a sloppy job of hooking it up. I know this is a common issue with suction cups. How do you guys get it to stay on the windshield.

I've seen that but that means the cable will be hanging from the rear view mirror, yes?
Too funny. Brothers in arms!
I'll have to look up the g-bracket mentioned. The suction cups are very annoying and draws attention to what's inside even with the unit stored out of sight.

Be extremely careful on the 15 freeway, especially on this Labor Day weekend. The CHP will be all over the place, as will the Nevada state police. Often, they don't bother with radar; they just run you down from behind, and you won't know they're there until they light up like the ferris wheel on Santa Monica Pier.
I used my V1 on my pilgrimage to Monterey a few weeks ago and it performed very well. Gave me alerts in plenty of time to be cautious. I run in 'Logic Mode' and that seems to eliminate a lot of bogus alerts.
