New clutch for Christmas
New clutch for Christmas
My garage seems so empty with my car in the shop for a new clutch at 34K miles. I acquired the car with 25K on the clock, so the original owner probably wasn't real good with a stick given the premature wear. Thought I'd have a few other things done as well while she's in the air. Oil change, plug replacement, etc. Should be back in a week or so. Fortunately, we have an ice storm here, so I wouldn't be driving it, anyway. $2K just for the clutch replacement using after market parts, which my tech says are better quality and more robust than Porsche OEM for an S. Merry Christmas to me…
Good for you, it will be great to have her back in good order.
I've asked in another thread however this one is the right place to pose the question. What is infact a reasonable price to pay from a independent mechanic to R&R the clutch on a 05 - 08 911 ?

I've been using these guys (Perfection Plus in Little Rock) to work on my Porsches for several years, and they have a good reputation here, are knowledgeable, have been reasonable in their prices, and have done great work. I believe the price of $2K they estimated is well within what to expect to pay at a decent independent shop. If it was a Porsche dealer doing the work with OEM parts, it would quite possibly be about $1K more.

Sachs is what they will putting in. My tech also said this is the OEM brand after all. Price includes resurfacing the flywheel. I had the option of getting a lightweight flywheel, but I decided to stay with the original.
i bought my car with 24k miles on it and i had the throwout bearing go bad at 32k miles. using all OEM parts, flywheel, clutch, and new bearing was $3200. porsche dealer wanted over $4k.
Got my car back last night. Total price for replacement was $918.00 labor/shop supplies + $784.75 parts + $161.76 tax = $1864.51 She now has a much nicer pedal feel and shifts as smoothly as a baby's backside. While under the car, my tech found I have a small leak on the forward output shaft. Porsche is back-ordered a month on the repair kit, so this may be a fairly common issue on the 4, and any 4 or 4S owners may want to have theirs checked the next time you have your car on the rack. Not an urgent issue, but it slings oil and makes things a bit messy. Estimate on repair is $250 for the kit and 2 - 3 hours labor.
Oh, and he threw in a Porsche key fob as a "thank you" for my business.
