2010 C4S - "joy" ride in a snow storm...

Well, not by choice. I had to run an errand, during a nasty winter storm yesterday, and only car I had was my C4S. Well, I knew this time would come - my first ride in snow. I wanted to see how it handles...

Surprisingly, it handled very well; few slips here and there, but I made it safely.
Much better than 328Xi. However,a experience wasn't without a hitch.

My PCM went Blank (e.g., complete "power" outrage) for few seconds and came back on with the Porsche logo. Few seconds later, everything seems to be normal.

What happen? Any ideas?

Thanks.

I had the exact same thing happen to my PCM about 4 days ago. First time too, it is just fine since. Makes me wonder if they push anything through the Sat to the car for a secret update

Interesting... same thing happened to my PCM today! Has been working fine all day after.
Of note, I have a C2S Cab, haven't gotten around to switching to my snow tires yet, and she handled just fine in today's storm in NYC (3 in of snow).

Software needs to be updated. I found that when using navigation, my pcm would reboot or shut off on its own randomly. Had the latest software update installed last year and has not happened again.

Good luck,

Dave

Looks freezing. What exhaust do you have? Never saw a 4S with oval tips before.

On snow, the stickiness of the rubber doesn't matter (summer vs winter tires) as you have no rubber to snow adhesion anyway, but the tread pattern and depth.. .that matters.... so riding on summer performance tires in the snow can be a bit.. dicey.

The tail pipes are the base model C4, that's the give away.

It's nice to see a rear wiper on a 997. You don't see that too often.

That's not true. Proper winter tires, aside from having more appropriate tread pattern and depth for unpacked snow, have a compound that is much softer in cold weather and will grip onto snow and even some ice very well. Once the snow gets packed down or on ice, the tread pattern and depth are not very useful.
(I am originally from a place that is colder and has more snow 4-6 months a year, every year, than what Chicago has had the last few days)
