Air Oil Separator and Tuning Tube

I just finished disassembling everything as a prepration for the arrival of my new Air Oil Separator.

In reviewing some DIY's, there was no reference to marking the tubing tube before removal; thus, I did not mark it before removal. For clarification, this would be the tube behind the Throttle Body.

Anyone knows how critical the alignment of this?

Thanks in advance.

p.s.,
Hopefully, my white smoke is really the AOS. I inspected the unit and it has no cracks. I wonder if the failure of these units are all internal.

devil boy is infamous around these parts
The tuning pipe has a vacuum modulator on the back side of the pipe and if I remember correctly that vacuum modulator goes on the right side which sort of allows a natural lay of the small plastic vacuum line to connect to the rubber vacuum tube that is clipped to the engine. The small vacuum line goes from the modulator and has a gradual bend back around to connect to the rubber vacuum tube...if that makes any sense at all. Sorry I don't have any pictures, only a vague explanation. I think as you hold the tuning pipe up to the opening you will see how it should go.

I found the trickiest part trying to reconnect that vacuum line. You almost have to do it one-handed. You want to double check that you connect that vacuum line good. Nothing worse than having a vacuum line pop off...especially one that is buried like that one.

Yes, that puppy has lines and connections behind it.

I was lead to believe that the orientation was not the issue; rather, the position of the "hole". I was thinking that it might need to be either pointing a little upwards or upwards from the horizontal center.

I think close to horizontal or slightly canted up like you mentioned would be fine. That should keep tension off that vacuum line connection and prevent it from popping out.

That was my recollection. Thanks for the confirmation.

FYI, I did a quick read on the Service and Tech manuals. It looks like the tuning tube works in conjunction with RPM.

Now, let's just hope my white-cloud issue is really the AOS and not a blown engine.

Problem fixed! Some more moolah saved. Anyone knows how much the Porsche dealer charges for AOS fix/service?

No affiliations but "thanks PelicanParts". As always, your shipping is still number 1. I can always rely on your deliveries and schedules.
