Are any of the value sites accurate?

I know that the standard sites for car appraisal use auction sales and such to determine prices but they seem really low compared to what I'm watching in the market as for asking prices and how quickly they sell. So my question is - which one if any is close to reality? Nada? Edmunds? Kbb.com?

for example. I tested it on a 2009 Cabriolet Carrera S with 35,000 miles loaded in very good condition and the private party value came back at under $45000. Then I tried a 1996 Carrera 993. Cabriolet. With 50,000 miles. And it came back at $15500.

You can't use those sites for classic car prices like 993's, you just have to follow the market for those right now. If you're looking at 964's or older 911's then check out Hagerty's valuation, but they only track cars 20+ years old and 993's aren't quite there yet.

For a 997 though you can get an accurate value. Make sure you added in all of the options though plus keep in mind that the private party value is the low end. And the market is going to vary some depending on where you live, what time of year it is, cab or coupe, etc...

Kbb seems pretty low, even for 997's. But I haven't tried any other sites

Use Hagerty for the classic car values. They have an iPhone app that makes it really easy too.

I did add all the options and it was retail values that were still 10-20k less than what I'm seeing these sell for. I guess I'll just have to track sales a little closer.
