Not the C2, C2S, or the GT3. Just the GTS and all of the all-wheel-drive variants (C4, C4S, Targa 4, Targa 4S, the GTS, the GT3RS, and all the Turbo models).
So a 2008 4S means a S Model with all wheel drive and has the wide body.
I am looking for a 997 S Model with the wide body.
No turbo
(Is the C for Carrera)?
That's like asking do I need a Porsche? C4 is heavier but gives the safety comfort of all wheel drive but unless you're driving a lot in inclement weather, C2 will be OK. So do you need it...maybe, maybe not, up to you.
Need....no. You don't technically NEED a car though either. The AWD is nice to have especially if its your only car. I don't need it nor did I want it. Helluva nice car thought.
coming from an air cooled
never drove a Porsche with all wheel drive
Live in California no snow no rain no weather just earth quakes maybe the all wheel drive will help after a major earth quake when the streets are all messed up

SoCal here and my C4S saved me twice or more from spinning after unforeseen puddles on freeways like on the 60 and 101. My SC would have spun!
AWD is like insurance -- you'll never know when it will save you.
I am not sure about the 997.1, but all 997.2, besides the wide body, the 4 wheel drive models will also come with LSD (mechanical locking differential) as standard feature. It's a nice thing to have on tight mountain roads.
Here is my car's fat hip, gratis as well
