ppi / dealer or indie?

Hi guys,

I am going to be purchasing a 997 GTS with under 10k miles. It is owned by an enthusiast who looks after the car quite well.

It is still got two months of warranty and is CPO, which I will extend or purchase another warranty.

Is it better to have a dealer do the ppi for credibility or is a highly qualified indie?

Also, would it affect the next warranty or have any reflection on the possibility of any mechanical issues in the future?

Thx

It really doesn't matter as long as the mechanic is competent. If it's a private sell, I would most likely take it to the Porsche dealer.

I guess what I meant to say will a dealer ppi be an advantage when I extend the warranty over an indie mechanic?

If you're buying the warranty from the dealer, it might save you from paying the inspection cost twice. If this is you intention, I would let them know that up front. Also, remember that almost all aftermarket (fidelity, ect..) warranties are price negotiable.

I had both of my Porsches PPI'ed at Porsche dealerships. About $200, there is a recent thread on P-9, a guy decided not to get a PPI b/c he's car was CPO'ed. He got into an accident and found out that his Cayman was involved in a previous accident and the front was resprayed. Apparently car can still be CPO'ed as long as it doesn't have structural damage. Let that be a lesson to all of us. CPO or not, PPI is a must.

Thanks,

The Porsche dealership wants $400 for a ppi. Seems steep.

What would a warranty cost and for how many miles and years?

I WOULD NEVER DO A PPi AT A DEALERSHIP! Dealerships aren't interested in PPi or in dealing with an outside party, they will never go in depth or go out of their way for an outside deal.

Goto a competent indy for sure, you should pay around $200-250, for $400 at an indy you would go as far as getting a leak down test
